Translation

Arabic, English and Urdu

Alqamah narrated that : Abdullah bin Mas'ud said: Shall I not demonstrate the Salat of Allah's Messenger to you? Then he offered Salat and he did not raise his hands except while saying the first Takbir.

حَدَّثَنَا هَنَّادٌ، حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ، عَنْ عَاصِمِ بْنِ كُلَيْبٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ الْأَسْوَدِ، عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ، قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ قَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ:‏‏‏‏ أَلَا أُصَلِّي بِكُمْ صَلَاةَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَصَلَّى فَلَمْ يَرْفَعْ يَدَيْهِ إِلَّا فِي أَوَّلِ مَرَّةٍ . قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ وَفِي الْبَاب عَنْ الْبَرَاءِ بْنِ عَازِبٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى:‏‏‏‏ حَدِيثُ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَبِهِ يَقُولُ:‏‏‏‏ غَيْرُ وَاحِدٍ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْعِلْمِ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَالتَّابِعِينَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَهُوَ قَوْلُ سُفْيَانَ الثَّوْرِيِّ وَأَهْلِ الْكُوفَةِ.

علقمہ کہتے ہیں کہ عبداللہ بن مسعود رضی الله عنہ نے کہا: ”کیا میں تمہیں رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کی طرح نماز نہ پڑھاؤں؟ تو انہوں نے نماز پڑھائی اور صرف پہلی مرتبہ اپنے دونوں ہاتھ اٹھائے ۱؎۔ امام ترمذی کہتے ہیں: ۱- ابن مسعود رضی الله عنہ کی حدیث حسن ہے، ۲- اس باب میں براء بن عازب رضی الله عنہما سے بھی حدیث آئی ہے، ۳- صحابہ کرام اور تابعین میں سے بہت سے اہل علم یہی کہتے ہیں اور یہی سفیان ثوری اور اہل کوفہ کا بھی قول ہے۔

Abu Abdur-Rahman As-Sulami said: Umar bin Al-Khattab [may Allah be pleased with him] said to us: 'The knees are the Sunnah for you, so hold the knees.'

Sa'd bin Abi Waqas said: We would do that, but then we were prohibited from it, and we were ordered to put our hands on our knees.

Abbas bin Sahl [bin Sa'd] narrated: Abu Humaid, Abu Usaid, Sahl bin Sa'd, and Muhammad bin Maslamah were once together and they were mentioning the Salat of Allah's Messenger. Abu Humaid said: 'I am the most knowledgeable among you of the Salat of Allah's Messenger: Allah's Messenger would bow and place his hands on his knees as if he was grasping them, and he would draw his forearms to hold them away from his sides.'

Ibn Mas'ud narrated that : the Prophet said: When one of you bows then says while he is bowing: (Subhana Rabbiyal Azim) 'Glorious is my Lord the Magnificent' three times, then he has completed his bowing. And that is the least of it. And when he prostrates and says while prostrating: (Subhana Rabbiyal A'la) 'Glorious is my Lord the Most High' three times, then he has completed his prostrations, and that is the least of it.'

Hudhaifah narrated that : he performed Salat with the Prophet, and that while he was bowing he would say: (Subhana Rabbiyal Azim); Glorious is my Lord the Magnificent and while prostrating: (Subhana Rabbiyal A'la) 'Glorious is my Lord the Most High.' And he would not recite an Ayah mentioning mercy, except that he would stop and ask (for mercy), and he would not recite an Ayah mentioning punishment, except that he would stop and seek refuge (with Allah from it).
