Abu Atiyyah narrated that : a man among them said: Malik bin Al-Huwairith came to us in our Musalla to narrate. One day when it was time for Salat, we told him to go ahead (to lead the prayer). He said: 'Let one of you go forward, until I narrate to you why I would not go forward (to lead prayer): I heard Allah's Messenger saying: Whoever visits a people, then he does not lead them, but a man among them leads them.

حَدَّثَنَا مَحْمُودُ بْنُ غَيْلَانَ، وَهَنَّادٌ، قَالَا:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ، عَنْ أَبَانَ بْنِ يَزِيدَ الْعَطَّارِ، عَنْ بُدَيْلِ بْنِ مَيْسَرَةَ الْعُقَيْلِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِي عَطِيَّةَ، رَجُلٍ مِنْهُمْ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ كَانَ مَالِكُ بْنُ الْحُوَيْرِثِ يَأْتِينَا فِي مُصَلَّانَا يَتَحَدَّثُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَحَضَرَتِ الصَّلَاةُ يَوْمًا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقُلْنَا لَهُ:‏‏‏‏ تَقَدَّمْ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ لِيَتَقَدَّمْ بَعْضُكُمْ حَتَّى أُحَدِّثَكُمْ لِمَ لَا أَتَقَدَّمُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ:‏‏‏‏ مَنْ زَارَ قَوْمًا فَلَا يَؤُمَّهُمْ وَلْيَؤُمَّهُمْ رَجُلٌ مِنْهُمْ قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى:‏‏‏‏ هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَالْعَمَلُ عَلَى هَذَا عِنْدَ أَكْثَرِ أَهْلِ الْعِلْمِ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَغَيْرِهِمْ قَالُوا:‏‏‏‏ صَاحِبُ الْمَنْزِلِ أَحَقُّ بِالْإِمَامَةِ مِنَ الزَّائِرِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وقَالَ بَعْضُ أَهْلِ الْعِلْمِ:‏‏‏‏ إِذَا أَذِنَ لَهُ فَلَا بَأْسَ أَنْ يُصَلِّيَ بِهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وقَالَ إِسْحَاق:‏‏‏‏ بِحَدِيثِ مَالِكِ بْنِ الْحُوَيْرِثِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَشَدَّدَ فِي أَنْ لَا يُصَلِّيَ أَحَدٌ بِصَاحِبِ الْمَنْزِلِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَإِنْ أَذِنَ لَهُ صَاحِبُ الْمَنْزِلِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ وَكَذَلِكَ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ لَا يُصَلِّي بِهِمْ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ إِذَا زَارَهُمْ يَقُولُ:‏‏‏‏ لِيُصَلِّ بِهِمْ رَجُلٌ مِنْهُمْ.

ابوعطیہ عقیلی کہتے ہیں کہ مالک بن حویرث رضی الله عنہ ہماری نماز پڑھنے کی جگہ میں آتے اور حدیث بیان کرتے تھے تو ایک دن نماز کا وقت ہوا تو ہم نے ان سے کہا کہ آپ آگے بڑھئیے ( اور نماز پڑھائیے ) ۔ انہوں نے کہا: تمہیں میں سے کوئی آگے بڑھ کر نماز پڑھائے یہاں تک کہ میں تمہیں بتاؤں کہ میں کیوں نہیں آگے بڑھتا، میں نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو فرماتے سنا ہے: ”جو کسی قوم کی زیارت کو جائے تو ان کی امامت نہ کرے بلکہ ان کی امامت ان ہی میں سے کسی آدمی کو کرنی چاہیئے“۔ امام ترمذی کہتے ہیں: ۱- یہ حدیث حسن صحیح ہے، ۲- صحابہ کرام وغیرہم میں سے اکثر اہل علم کا اسی پر عمل ہے، وہ کہتے ہیں کہ صاحب خانہ زیارت کرنے والے سے زیادہ امامت کا حقدار ہے، بعض اہل علم کہتے ہیں کہ جب اسے اجازت دے دی جائے تو اس کے نماز پڑھانے میں کوئی حرج نہیں ہے، اسحاق بن راہویہ نے مالک بن حویرث رضی الله عنہ کی حدیث کے مطابق کہا ہے اور انہوں نے اس مسئلہ میں سختی برتی ہے کہ صاحب خانہ کو کوئی اور نماز نہ پڑھائے اگرچہ صاحب خانہ اسے اجازت دیدے، نیز وہ کہتے ہیں: اسی طرح کا حکم مسجد کے بارے میں بھی ہے کہ وہ جب ان کی زیارت کے لیے آیا ہو انہیں میں سے کسی آدمی کو ان کی نماز پڑھانی چاہیئے۔

Thawban narrated that : the Prophet said: It is not allowed for a man to look into the interior of a man's house until he has been given permission, for if he looks, then he has entered. And one who leads people (in Salat) should not supplicate for himself alone with the exclusion of his congregation. If he does, then he has betrayed them. And one is not to stand for Salat while he has to urinate.

Anas bin Malik narrated: Allah's Messenger cursed three people: A man who leads people (in Salat) while they dislike him, a woman who spends a night while her husband with her, and a man who hears: 'Hayya Alal Falah (come to success)' then does not respond.

Amr bin Al-Harith Al-Mustaliq said: It used to be said that the people with the worst punishment [on the Day of Judgment] are two: A woman who disobeyed her husband, and a people's Imam whom they dislike.

Abu Umamah narrated that : Allah's Messenger said: There are three whose Salat would not rise up beyond their ears: The runaway slave until he returns, a woman who spends a night while her husband is angry with her, and a people's Imam whom they dislike.

Anas bin Malik narrated: Allah's Messenger fell from a horse and got injured, so he led Salat sitting and we also offered Salat sitting. When he completed the Salat he said: The Imam is appointed to be followed; when he says the Takbir then say the Takbir, when he bows, then bow, and when he raises his head, then raise your heads. When he says: Sami' Allahu liman hamidah (Allah listens to those who praise him) then say: Rabbana wa lakal-hamd. (O our Lord! And all praise is Yours.) and when he prostrates, then prostrate, and when he performs Salat sitting, then pray sitting altogether.'
