Narrated Zaid bin Arqam, may Allah be pleased with both of them: that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: Indeed, I am leaving among you, that which if you hold fast to them, you shall not be misguided after me. One of them is greater than the other: The Book of Allah is a rope extended from the sky to the earth, and my family - the people of my house - and they shall not split until they meet at the Hawd, so look at how you deal with them after me.

حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْمُنْذِرِ الْكُوفِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ فُضَيْلٍ، قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ، عَنْ عَطِيَّةَ، عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ،‏‏‏‏ وَالْأَعْمَشُ، عَنْ حَبِيبِ بْنِ أَبِي ثَابِتٍ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَرْقَمَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَا:‏‏‏‏ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:‏‏‏‏ إِنِّي تَارِكٌ فِيكُمْ مَا إِنْ تَمَسَّكْتُمْ بِهِ لَنْ تَضِلُّوا بَعْدِي، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَحَدُهُمَا أَعْظَمُ مِنَ الْآخَرِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏كِتَابُ اللَّهِ حَبْلٌ مَمْدُودٌ مِنَ السَّمَاءِ إِلَى الْأَرْضِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَعِتْرَتِي أَهْلُ بَيْتِي،‏‏‏‏ وَلَنْ يَتَفَرَّقَا حَتَّى يَرِدَا عَلَيَّ الْحَوْضَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَانْظُرُوا كَيْفَ تَخْلُفُونِي فِيهِمَا . قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ هَذَا حَسَنٌ غَرِيبٌ.

زید بن ارقم رضی الله عنہما کہتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”میں تم میں ایسی چیز چھوڑنے والا ہوں کہ اگر تم اسے پکڑے رہو گے تو ہرگز گمراہ نہ ہو گے: ان میں سے ایک دوسرے سے بڑی ہے اور وہ اللہ کی کتاب ہے گویا وہ ایک رسی ہے جو آسمان سے زمین تک لٹکی ہوئی ہے، اور دوسری میری «عترت» یعنی میرے اہل بیت ہیں یہ دونوں ہرگز جدا نہ ہوں گے، یہاں تک کہ یہ دونوں حوض کوثر پر میرے پاس آئیں گے، تو تم دیکھ لو کہ ان دونوں کے سلسلہ میں تم میری کیسی جانشینی کر رہے ہو“ ۱؎۔ امام ترمذی کہتے ہیں: یہ حدیث حسن غریب ہے۔

Narrated Ibn 'Abbas: that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: Love Allah for what He nourishes you with of His Blessings, love me due to the love of Allah, and love the people of my house due to love of me.

Narrated Anas bin Malik: that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: The most merciful of my nation to my nation is Abu Bakr, and the most severe of them concerning the order of Allah is 'Umar, and the most truly modest of them is 'Uthman bin 'Affan. The most knowledgeable of them concerning the lawful and unlawful is Mu'adh Bin Jabal, the most knowledgeable of them concerning (the laws of) inheritance is Zaid bin Thabit, the best reciter (of the Qur'an) among them is Ubayy bin Ka'b, and every nation has a trustworthy one, and the trustworthy one of this nation is Abu 'Ubaidah Bin Al-Jarrah.

Narrated Anas bin Malik: that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said to Ubayy bin Ka'b: Indeed Allah ordered me to recite to you: Those who disbelieve were not going to... (98:1) He said: And He named me? He said: Yes. So he wept.

Narrated Ubayy bin Ka'b: that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said to him: Indeed, Allah ordered me to recite to you, so he recited in it: Those who disbelieve from amongst the Book were not going to...' (And he) also recited in it, Indeed, the religion with Allah is Al-Hanafiyyah, the Muslim, not Judaism, nor Christianity, whoever does good, it shall not be rejected from him. And he recited to him: And if the son of Adam had a valley-full of wealth, he would seek a second, and if he had a second, he would seek a third, and nothing fills the belly of the son of Adam except for dirt. And Allah pardons those who repent.

Narrated Qatadah: that Anas bin Malik said: Four gathered the Qur'an during the time of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), all of them are from the Ansar: Ubayy bin Ka'b, Mu'adh bin Jabal, Zaid bin Thabit, and Abu Zaid. I said to Anas: Who is Abu Zaid? He said: One of my uncles.
