Narrated Anas: When `Abdur-Rahman bin `Auf married an Ansari woman, the Prophet asked him, How much Mahr did you give her? `Abdur-Rahman said, Gold equal to the weight of a date stone. Anas added: When they (i.e. the Prophet and his companions) arrived at Medina, the emigrants stayed at the Ansar's houses. `Abdur-Rahman bin `Auf stayed at Sa`d bin Ar-Rabi's house. Sa`d said to `Abdur- Rahman, I will divide and share my property with you and will give one of my two wives to you. `Abdur-Rahman said, May Allah bless you, your wives and property (I am not in need of that; but kindly show me the way to the market). So `Abdur-Rahman went to the market and traded there gaining a profit of some dried yoghurt and butter, and married (an Ansari woman). The Prophet said to him, Give a banquet, even if with one sheep.

حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيٌّ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي حُمَيْدٌ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَنَسًا رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، قَالَ : سَأَلَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنَ عَوْفٍ وَتَزَوَّجَ امْرَأَةً مِنْ الْأَنْصَارِ ، كَمْ أَصْدَقْتَهَا ؟ قَالَ : وَزْنَ نَوَاةٍ مِنْ ذَهَبٍ . وَعَنْ حُمَيْدٍ ، سَمِعْتُ أَنَسًا ، قَالَ : لَمَّا قَدِمُوا الْمَدِينَةَ نَزَلَ الْمُهَاجِرُونَ عَلَى الْأَنْصَارِ فَنَزَلَ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ عَوْفٍ عَلَى سَعْدِ بْنِ الرَّبِيعِ ، فَقَالَ : أُقَاسِمُكَ مَالِي وَأَنْزِلُ لَكَ عَنْ إِحْدَى امْرَأَتَيَّ ، قَالَ : بَارَكَ اللَّهُ لَكَ فِي أَهْلِكَ وَمَالِكَ ، فَخَرَجَ إِلَى السُّوقِ فَبَاعَ وَاشْتَرَى فَأَصَابَ شَيْئًا مِنْ أَقِطٍ وَسَمْنٍ فَتَزَوَّجَ ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : أَوْلِمْ وَلَوْ بِشَاةٍ .

ہم سے علی بن عبداللہ مدینی نے بیان کیا، کہا ہم سے سفیان بن عیینہ نے بیان کیا، کہا کہ مجھ سے حمید طویل نے بیان کیا اور انہوں نے انس رضی اللہ عنہ سے سنا، انہوں نے بیان کیا کہ نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے عبدالرحمٰن بن عوف رضی اللہ عنہ سے پوچھا، انہوں نے قبیلہ انصار کی ایک عورت سے شادی کی تھی کہ مہر کتنا دیا ہے؟ انہوں نے کہا کہ ایک گٹھلی کے وزن کے برابر سونا۔ اور حمید سے روایت ہے کہ میں نے انس رضی اللہ عنہ سے سنا اور انہوں نے بیان کیا کہ جب ( نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم اور مہاجرین صحابہ ) مدینہ ہجرت کر کے آئے تو مہاجرین نے انصار کے یہاں قیام کیا عبدالرحمٰن بن عوف رضی اللہ عنہ نے سعد بن ربیع رضی اللہ عنہ کے یہاں قیام کیا۔ سعد رضی اللہ عنہ نے ان سے کہا کہ میں آپ کو اپنا مال تقسیم کر دوں گا اور اپنی دو بیویوں میں سے ایک کو آپ کے لیے چھوڑ دوں گا۔ عبدالرحمٰن نے کہا کہ اللہ آپ کے اہل و عیال اور مال میں برکت دے پھر وہ بازار نکل گئے اور وہاں تجارت شروع کی اور پنیر اور گھی نفع میں کمایا۔ اس کے بعد شادی کی تو نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے ان سے فرمایا کہ دعوت ولیمہ کر خواہ ایک بکری ہی کی ہو۔

Narrated Anas: The Prophet did not give a better wedding banquet on the occasion of marrying any of his wives than the one he gave on marrying Zainab, and that banquet was with (consisted of) one sheep.

Narrated Anas: Allah's Apostle manumitted Safiyya and then married her, and her Mahr was her manumission, and he gave a wedding banquet with Hais (a sort of sweet dish made from butter, cheese and dates).

Narrated Anas: The Prophet consummated his marriage with a woman (Zainab), so he sent me to invite men to the meals.

Narrated Thabit: The marriage of Zainab bint Jahash was mentioned in the presence of Anas and he said, I did not see the Prophet giving a better banquet on marrying any of his wives than the one he gave on marrying Zainab. He then gave a banquet with one sheep.
