Narrated Abu Sa`id Al-Khudri: The Prophet said, Allah never sends a prophet or gives the Caliphate to a Caliph but that he (the prophet or the Caliph) has two groups of advisors: A group advising him to do good and exhorts him to do it, and the other group advising him to do evil and exhorts him to do it. But the protected person (against such evil advisors) is the one protected by Allah.'

حَدَّثَنَا أَصْبَغُ ، أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ ، أَخْبَرَنِي يُونُسُ ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : مَا بَعَثَ اللَّهُ مِنْ نَبِيٍّ ، وَلَا اسْتَخْلَفَ مِنْ خَلِيفَةٍ إِلَّا كَانَتْ لَهُ بِطَانَتَانِ : بِطَانَةٌ تَأْمُرُهُ بِالْمَعْرُوفِ وَتَحُضُّهُ عَلَيْهِ ، وَبِطَانَةٌ تَأْمُرُهُ بِالشَّرِّ وَتَحُضُّهُ عَلَيْهِ ، فَالْمَعْصُومُ مَنْ عَصَمَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى ، وَقَالَ سُلَيْمَانُ ، عَنْ يَحْيَى ، أَخْبَرَنِي ابْنُ شِهَابٍ بِهَذَا ، وَعَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عَتِيقٍ ، وَمُوسَى ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، مِثْلَهُ ، وَقَالَ شُعَيْبٌ ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ : حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ ، قَوْلَهُ ، وَقَالَ الْأَوْزَاعِيُّ ، وَمُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ سَلَّامٍ : حَدَّثَنِي الزُّهْرِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَقَالَ ابْنُ أَبِي حُسَيْنٍ ، وَسَعِيدُ بْنُ زِيَادٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ ، قَوْلَهُ ، وَقَالَ عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي صَفْوَانُ ، عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي أَيُّوبَ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ .

ہم سے اصبغ نے بیان کیا، کہا ہم کو ابن وہب نے خبر دی، انہیں یونس نے خبر دی، انہیں ابن شہاب نے، انہیں ابوسلمہ نے اور انہیں ابو سعید خدری رضی اللہ عنہ نے کہ نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا ”اللہ نے جب بھی کوئی نبی بھیجا یا کسی کو خلیفہ بنایا تو اس کے ساتھ دو رفیق تھے ایک تو انہیں نیکی کے لیے کہتا اور اس پر ابھارتا اور دوسرا انہیں برائی کے لیے کہتا اور اس پر ابھارتا۔ پس معصوم وہ ہے جسے اللہ بچائے رکھے۔“ اور سلیمان بن بلال نے اس حدیث کو یحییٰ بن سعید انصاری سے روایت کیا، کہا مجھ کو ابن شہاب نے خبر دی ( اس کو اسماعیلی نے وصل کیا ) اور ابن ابی عتیق اور موسیٰ بن عقبہ سے بھی، ان دونوں نے ابن شہاب سے یہی حدیث ( اس کو بیہقی نے وصل کیا ) اور شعیب بن ابی حمزہ نے زہری سے یوں روایت کی، مجھ سے ابوسلمہ نے بیان کیا، انہوں نے ابو سعید خدری رضی اللہ عنہ سے ان کا قول ( یعنی حدیث کوث موقوفاً نقل کیا ) اور امام اوزاعی اور معاویہ بن سلام نے کہا، مجھ سے زہری نے بیان کیا، کہا مجھ سے ابوسلمہ بن عبدالرحمٰن نے، انہوں نے ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ عنہ سے، انہوں نے نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے اور عبداللہ بن عبدالرحمٰن بن ابی حسین اور سعید بن زیاد نے اس کو ابوسلمہ سے روایت کیا ‘، انہوں نے ابوسعید خدری رضی اللہ عنہ سے موقوفاً ( یعنی ابوسعید کا قول ) اور عبداللہ بن ابی جعفر نے کہا، مجھ سے صفوان بن سلیم نے بیان کیا، انہوں نے ابوسلمہ سے، انہوں نے ابوایوب سے، کہا میں نے نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے سنا۔

Narrated 'Ubada bin As-Samit: We gave the oath of allegiance to Allah's Apostle that we would listen to and obey him both at the time when we were active and at the time when we were tired.

And that we would not fight against the ruler or disobey him, and would stand firm for the truth or say the truth wherever we might be, and in the Way of Allah we would not be afraid of the blame of the blamers.

Narrated Anas: The Prophet went out on a cold morning while the Muhajirin (emigrants) and the Ansar were digging the trench. The Prophet then said, O Allah! The real goodness is the goodness of the Here after, so please forgive the Ansar and the Muhajirin. They replied, We are those who have given the Pledge of allegiance to Muhammad for to observe Jihad as long as we remain alive.

Narrated `Abdullah bin `Umar: Whenever we gave the Pledge of allegiance to Allah's Apostle for to listen to and obey, he used to say to us, for as much as you can.

Narrated `Abdullah bin Dinar: I witnessed Ibn `Umar when the people gathered around `Abdul Malik. Ibn `Umar wrote: I gave the Pledge of allegiance that I will listen to and obey Allah's Slave, `Abdul Malik, Chief of the believers according to Allah's Laws and the Traditions of His Apostle as much as I can; and my sons too, give the same pledge.'

Narrated Jabir bin `Abdullah: I gave the Pledge of allegiance to the Prophet that I would listen and obey, and he told me to add: 'As much as I can, and will give good advice to every Muslim.'
