This hadith has been narrated by Ibn 'Umar from the Messenger of Allah ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ), but in the hadith transmited by Musa b. 'Uqba, this addition is made: When one who had committed the Qur'an to memory (or who is familiar with it) gets up (for night prayer) and recites it night and day, it remains fresh in his mind, but if he does not get up (for prayer and thus does not recite it) he forgets it.
حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى وَعُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ قَالُوا حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى وَهُوَ الْقَطَّانُ ح و حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو خَالِدٍ الْأَحْمَرُ ح و حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي كُلُّهُمْ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ ح و حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي عُمَرَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ أَخْبَرَنَا مَعْمَرٌ عَنْ أَيُّوبَ ح و حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ يَعْنِي ابْنَ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ح و حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَقَ الْمُسَيَّبِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا أَنَسٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ عِيَاضٍ جَمِيعًا عَنْ مُوسَى بْنِ عُقْبَةَ كُلُّ هَؤُلَاءِ عَنْ نَافِعٍ عَنْ ابْنِ عُمَرَ عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِمَعْنَى حَدِيثِ مَالِكٍ وَزَادَ فِي حَدِيثِ مُوسَى بْنِ عُقْبَةَ وَإِذَا قَامَ صَاحِبُ الْقُرْآنِ فَقَرَأَهُ بِاللَّيْلِ وَالنَّهَارِ ذَكَرَهُ وَإِذَا لَمْ يَقُمْ بِهِ نَسِيَهُ
  1840عبید اللہ ایوب اور موسیٰ بن عقبہ سب نے ( جن تک سندوں کے مختلف سلسلے پہنچے ) نافع سے انھوں نے حضڑت ابن عمر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے مالک کی حدیث کے ہم معنی روایت بیان کی اور موسیٰ بن عقبہ کی روایت میں یہ اضافہ ہے : " جب صاحب قرآن قیام کرے گا اور رات دن اس کی قراءت کرے گا تو وہ اسے یاد رکھے گا اور جب اس ( کی قراءت ) کے ساتھ قیام نہیں کرے گا تو وہ اسے بھول جا ئے گا ۔

Abdullah reported Allah's Messenger ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) as saying: What a wretched person is he amongst them who says: I have forgotten such and such a verse. (He should instead of using this expression say): I have been made to forget it. Try to remember the Qur'an for it is more apt to escape from men's minds than a hobbled camel.

Abdullah is reported to have said: Keep refreshing your knowledge of the sacred books (or always renew your knowledge of these sacred books) and sometimes he would mention the Qur'an for it is more apt to escape from men's minds than animals which are hobbled, and the Messenger of Allah ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) said: None of you should say: I forgot such and such a verse, but he has been made to forget.

Ibn Mas'ud reported Allah's Messenger ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) as saying: Wretched is the man who says: I forgot such and such a sura, or I forget such and such a verse, but he has been made to forget.

Abu Musa al-Ash'ari reported Allah's Apostle ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) as saying: Keep refreshing your knowledge of the Qur'an, for I swear by Him in Whose Hand is the life of Mahammad that it is more liable to escape than camels which are hobbled.
