Ibn 'Abbas reported that while Gabriel was sitting with the Apostle ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) he heard a creaking sound above him. He lifted his head and said: This is a gate opened in heaven today which had never been opened before. Then when an angel descended through it, he said: This is an angel who came down to the earth who had never come down before. He greeted and said: Rejoice in two lights given to you which have not been given to any prophet before you: Fatihat al-Kitab and the concluding verses of Surah al-Baqara. You will never recite a letter from them for which you will not be given (a reward).

حَدَّثَنَا حَسَنُ بْنُ الرَّبِيعِ وَأَحْمَدُ بْنُ جَوَّاسٍ الْحَنْفِيُّ قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْأَحْوَصِ عَنْ عَمَّارِ بْنِ رُزَيْقٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ عَنْ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ بَيْنَمَا جِبْرِيلُ قَاعِدٌ عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ سَمِعَ نَقِيضًا مِنْ فَوْقِهِ فَرَفَعَ رَأْسَهُ فَقَالَ هَذَا بَابٌ مِنْ السَّمَاءِ فُتِحَ الْيَوْمَ لَمْ يُفْتَحْ قَطُّ إِلَّا الْيَوْمَ فَنَزَلَ مِنْهُ مَلَكٌ فَقَالَ هَذَا مَلَكٌ نَزَلَ إِلَى الْأَرْضِ لَمْ يَنْزِلْ قَطُّ إِلَّا الْيَوْمَ فَسَلَّمَ وَقَالَ أَبْشِرْ بِنُورَيْنِ أُوتِيتَهُمَا لَمْ يُؤْتَهُمَا نَبِيٌّ قَبْلَكَ فَاتِحَةُ الْكِتَابِ وَخَوَاتِيمُ سُورَةِ الْبَقَرَةِ لَنْ تَقْرَأَ بِحَرْفٍ مِنْهُمَا إِلَّا أُعْطِيتَهُ

حضرت ابن عباس رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سےروایت ہے کہ جبرئیل علیہ السلام نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے پاس بیٹھے ہوئے تھے کہ اچانک انھوں نے اوپر سے ایسی آواز سنی جیسی دروازہ کھلنے کی ہوتی ہے تو انھوں نے اپنا سر اوپر اٹھایا اور کہا : آسمان کا یہ دروازہ آج ہی کھولا گیا ہے ، آج سے پہلے کبھی نہیں کھولا گیا ، اس سے ایک فرشتہ اترا تو انھوں نے کہا : یہ ایک فرشتہ آسمان سے اترا ہے یہ آج سے پہلے کبھی نہیں اترا ، اس فرشتے نے سلام کیا اور ( آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے ) کہا : آپ کو دو نور ملنے کی خوشخبری ہو جو آپ سے پہلے کسی نبی کو نہیں دیئے گئے : ( ایک ) فاتحہ الکتاب ( سورہ فاتحہ ) اور ( دوسری ) سورہ بقرہ کی آخری آیات ۔ آپ ان دونوں میں سے کوئی جملہ بھی نہیں پڑھیں گے مگر وہ آپ کو عطا کردیا جائے گا ۔

Abd al-Rahman b. Yazid reported: I met Abu Mas'ud near the House (Ka'ba) and said to him: A hadith has been conveyed to me on your authority about the two (concluding verses of Surah al-Baqara. He said: Yes. The Messenger of Allah ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) (in fact) said: Anyone who recites the two verses at the end of Surah al-Baqara at night, they would suffice for him.

Abu Mas'ud reported Allah's Messenger ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) as saying: If anyone recites the two verses at the end of Surah al-Baqara at night, they would suffice for him 'Abd al-Rahman said: I met Abu Mas'ud and he was circumambulating the House (of Allah) and asked him about this (tradition) and he narrated it to me from the Messenger of Allah ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ).
