Narrated Zayd ibn Arqam: Ilyas ibn Abu Ramlah ash-Shami said: I witnessed Muawiyah ibn Abu Sufyan asking Zayd ibn Arqam: Did you offer along with the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم the Friday and Eid prayers synchronised on the same day? He said: Yes. He asked: How did he do? He replied: He offered the Eid prayer, then granted concession to offer the Friday prayer, and said: If anyone wants to offer it, he may offer.
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ كَثِيرٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْرَائِيلُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ الْمُغِيرَةِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ إِيَاسِ بْنِ أَبِي رَمْلَةَ الشَّامِيِّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ شَهِدْتُ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنَ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ وَهُوَ يَسْأَلُ زَيْدَ بْنَ أَرْقَمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ أَشَهِدْتَ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عِيدَيْنِ اجْتَمَعَا فِي يَوْمٍ ؟ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ نَعَمْ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ فَكَيْفَ صَنَعَ ؟ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ صَلَّى الْعِيدَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ثُمَّ رَخَّصَ فِي الْجُمُعَةِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ مَنْ شَاءَ أَنْ يُصَلِّيَ فَلْيُصَلِّ .
ایاس بن ابی رملۃ شامی کہتے ہیں کہ   میں معاویہ بن ابوسفیان رضی اللہ عنہ کے پاس موجود تھا اور وہ زید بن ارقم رضی اللہ عنہ سے پوچھ رہے تھے کہ کیا آپ نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے ساتھ دو عیدوں میں جو ایک ہی دن آ پڑی ہوں حاضر رہے ہیں؟ تو انہوں نے کہا: ہاں، معاویہ نے پوچھا: پھر آپ نے کس طرح کیا؟ انہوں نے کہا: آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے عید کی نماز پڑھی، پھر جمعہ کی رخصت دی اور فرمایا: جو جمعہ کی نماز پڑھنی چاہے پڑھے ۱؎ ۔

Narrated Abdullah ibn Abbas: Ata ibn Abu Rabah said: Ibn az-Zubayr led us in the Eid prayer on Friday early in the morning. When we went to offer the Friday, he did not come out to us. So we prayed ourselves alone. At that time Ibn Abbas was present in at-Taif. When he came to us, we mentioned this (incident) to him. He said: He followed the sunnah.

Abdullah bin Umar said: Umar bin al-Khattab saw a silken suit sold at the gate of the mosque. He said: Messenger of Allah, would that you purchase this suit and wear it on Friday and on the occasion when a delegation (from the outside) comes to you. The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم said: One who has no share in the afterlife will put on this (suit). Afterwards suits of similar nature were brought to the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم. He gave Umar bin al-Khattab one of these suits. Umar said: Messenger of Allah, you are giving it to me for use while you had told me such-and-such about the suit of ‘Utarid (I. e. sold by ‘Utarid). The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم said: I did not give it to you that you should wear it. Hence Umar gave it to his brother who was a disbeliever at Makkah for wearing.
