Narrated Sahl ibn Saad: I never saw the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم raising his hands and praying on the pulpit or otherwise. But I saw him saying (doing) this way, and he would point with his forefinger making a circle by joining the middle finger with his thumb.

حَدَّثَنَا مُسَدَّدٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ الْمُفَضَّلِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ يَعْنِي ابْنَ إِسْحَاقَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ مُعَاوِيَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ ابْنِ أَبِي ذُبَابٍ،‏‏‏‏عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ مَا رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ شَاهِرًا يَدَيْهِ قَطُّ يَدْعُو عَلَى مِنْبَرِهِ وَلَا عَلَى غَيْرِهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَلَكِنْ رَأَيْتُهُ يَقُولُ هَكَذَا:‏‏‏‏ وَأَشَارَ بِالسَّبَّابَةِ وَعَقَدَ الْوُسْطَى بِالْإِبْهَامِ .

سہل بن سعد رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ میں نے کبھی بھی رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو دونوں ہاتھ اٹھا کر اپنے منبر پر دعا مانگتے ہوئے نہیں دیکھا اور نہ غیر منبر پر، بلکہ میں نے آپ کو اس طرح کرتے دیکھا اور انہوں نے شہادت کی انگلی سے اشارہ کیا اور بیچ کی انگلی کا انگوٹھے سے حلقہ بنایا۔

Narrated Ammar ibn Yasir: The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم commanded us to shorten the speeches.

Narrated Jabir ibn Samurah as-Suwa'i: The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم would not lengthen the sermon on Friday. He would say a few words.

Narrated Samurah ibn Jundub: The Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم said: Attend the sermon (on Friday) and sit near the imam, for a man keeps himself away until he will be left behind at the time of entering Paradise though he enters it.

Narrated Buraydah ibn al-Hasib: The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم delivered a speech to us; meanwhile al-Hasan and al-Husayn came upon there stumbling, wearing red shirts. He came down from the pulpit, took them and ascended it with them. He then said: Allah truly said: Your property and your children are only trial (Ixiv. 15). I saw both of them, and I could not wait. Afterwards he resumed the speech.

Narrated Anas ibn Malik: The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم prohibited to sit on hips by erecting feet, sticking them to the stomach and holding them with hands on Friday while the imam is delivering the sermon.

Yala bin Shaddad bin Aws said: I came to Muawiyah in Jerusalem. He led us in the Friday prayer. I saw that most of the people in the mosque were the Companions of the Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم. I saw them sitting in ihtiba condition, i. e. sitting on hips erecting the feet and sticking them to the stomach and holding them with hands or tying them with a cloth to the back, while the imam was giving sermon. Abu Dawud said: Ibn Umar used to sit in ihtiba position while the imam gave the Friday sermon. Anas bin Malik, Shuraih, Sa'sa'ah bin Sawhan, Saeed bin al-Musayyib, Ibrahim al-Nakha'i, Makhul, Ismail, Ismail bin Muhammad bin Saad, and Nu'aim bin Sulamah said: There is no harm in sitting in ihtiba position. Abu Dawud said: I do not know whether anyone considered it disapproved except Ubadah bin Nasayy.
