Ubaid Allah bin Abdullah bin Utbah bin Masud said: Umar bin al-Khattab asked Abu Waqid al-Laithi: What did the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم recite during the prayer on the day of sacrifice and on the breaking of the fast ? He replied: He recited at both of them Surah al-Qaf, By the Glorious Quran [50] and the Surah The Hour is nigh (54).

حَدَّثَنَا الْقَعْنَبِيُّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ مَالِكٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ ضَمْرَةَ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ الْمَازِنِيِّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُتْبَةَ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَنَّ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ سَأَلَ أَبَا وَاقِدٍ اللَّيْثِيَّ:‏‏‏‏ مَاذَا كَانَ يَقْرَأُ بِهِ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي الْأَضْحَى وَالْفِطْرِ ؟ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ كَانَ يَقْرَأُ فِيهِمَا ق وَالْقُرْآنِ الْمَجِيدِ وَ اقْتَرَبَتِ السَّاعَةُ وَانْشَقَّ الْقَمَرُ .

عبیداللہ بن عبداللہ بن عتبہ بن مسعود سے روایت ہے کہ عمر بن خطاب رضی اللہ عنہ نے ابوواقد الیثی رضی اللہ عنہ سے پوچھا: رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم عید الاضحی اور عید الفطر میں کون سی سورت پڑھتے تھے؟ آپ نے کہا: آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ان میں «ق والقرآن المجيد» اور «اقتربت الساعة وانشق القمر» پڑھتے تھے۔

Narrated Abdullah ibn as-Saib: I attended the Eid prayer along with the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم. When he finished the prayer, he said: We shall deliver the sermon; he who likes to sit for listening to it may sit and he who likes to go away may go away. Abu Dawud said: this is a mursal tradition (i. e. the successor Ata directly reporting from the Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم and omitting the link of the Companions).

Narrated Abdullah ibn Umar: The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم went out by one road on the day of the Eid (festival) and returned by another.

Narrated Abu Umayr ibn Anas: Abu Umayr reported on the authority of some of his paternal uncles who were Companions of the Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم: Some men came riding to the Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم and testified that they had sighted the new moon the previous day. He (the Holy Prophet), therefore, commanded the people to break the fast and to go out to their place of prayer in the morning.

Narrated Bakr ibn Mubashshir al-Ansari: I used to go to the place of prayer on the day of the breaking of the fast, and on the day of sacrifice along with the Companions of the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم. We would walk through a valley known as Batn Bathan till we came to the place of prayer. Then we would pray along with the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم and return through Batn Bathan to our house.

Narrated Abu Hurairah: The rain fell on the day of Eid (festival), so the Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم led them (the people) in the Eid prayer in the mosque.

Abbad bin Tamim (al-Muzini) reported on the authority of his uncle: The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم took the people out (to the place of prayer) and prayed for rain. He led them in two rak'ahs of prayer in the course of which he recited from the Quran in a loud voice. He turned around his cloak and raised his hands, prayed for rain and faced the qiblah
