Abdullah bin As-Sa'di narrated that he came to 'Umar bin Al-Khattab during his Caliphate and 'Umar said to him: I heard that you do some jobs for the people but when payment is given to you, you do not like it. I said: Yes (that is so). He said: Why do you do that? I said: I have horses and slaves and well off, and I wanted my work to be an act of charity toward the Muslims. 'Umar said to him: Do not do that. I used to want the same thing as you. The Messenger of Allah used to give me payment and I would say, 'Give it to someone who is more in need of it than I am' until, on one occasion, the Prophet gave me payment and I said: 'Give it to someone who is more in said: Take it and keep it or give it in charity. Wealth when you are not hoping for it and not asking for it, take it, and whatever does not, then do not wish for it. '

أَخْبَرَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَإِسْحَاق بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ،‏‏‏‏ عَنِ الْحَكَمِ بْنِ نَافِعٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ أَنْبَأَنَا شُعَيْبٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ أَخْبَرَنِي السَّائِبُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَنَّ حُوَيْطِبَ بْنَ عَبْدِ الْعُزَّى أَخْبَرَهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ السَّعْدِيِّ أَخْبَرَهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَنَّهُ قَدِمَ عَلَى عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ فِي خِلَافَتِهِ فَقَالَ عُمَرُ:‏‏‏‏ أَلَمْ أُخْبَرْ أَنَّكَ تَلِي مِنْ أَعْمَالِ النَّاسِ أَعْمَالًا فَإِذَا أُعْطِيتَ الْعُمَالَةَ كَرِهْتَهَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ فَقُلْتُ:‏‏‏‏ بَلَى، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ فَمَا تُرِيدُ إِلَى ذَلِكَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقُلْتُ:‏‏‏‏ إِنَّ لِي أَفْرَاسًا وَأَعْبُدًا وَأَنَا بِخَيْرٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَأُرِيدُ أَنْ يَكُونَ عَمَلِي صَدَقَةً عَلَى الْمُسْلِمِينَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ عُمَرُ:‏‏‏‏ فَلَا تَفْعَلْ فَإِنِّي كُنْتُ أَرَدْتُ الَّذِي أَرَدْتَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَكَانَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُعْطِينِي الْعَطَاءَ فَأَقُولُ:‏‏‏‏ أَعْطِهِ أَفْقَرَ إِلَيْهِ مِنِّي، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَتَّى أَعْطَانِي مَرَّةً مَالًا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقُلْتُ:‏‏‏‏ أَعْطِهِ أَفْقَرَ إِلَيْهِ مِنِّي، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:‏‏‏‏ خُذْهُ فَتَمَوَّلْهُ وَتَصَدَّقْ بِهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَمَا جَاءَكَ مِنْ هَذَا الْمَالِ وَأَنْتَ غَيْرُ مُشْرِفٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَلَا سَائِلٍ فَخُذْهُ وَمَا لَا فَلَا تُتْبِعْهُ نَفْسَكَ .

عبداللہ بن السعدی رضی الله عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ وہ عمر بن خطاب رضی اللہ عنہ کے زمانہ خلافت میں ان کے پاس آئے تو عمر رضی اللہ عنہ نے کہا: کیا مجھے یہ خبر نہیں دی گئی ہے کہ تم عوامی کاموں میں سے کسی کام کے والی ہوتے ہو تو جب تمہیں اجرت دی جاتی ہے تو تم اسے ناپسند کرتے ہو؟ وہ کہتے ہیں: میں نے کہا: کیوں نہیں ( ایسا تو ہے ) انہوں نے کہا: اس سے تم کیا چاہتے ہو؟ میں نے کہا: میرے پاس گھوڑے اور غلام ہیں اور میں ٹھیک ٹھاک ہوں، میں چاہتا ہوں کہ میرا کام مسلمانوں پر صدقہ ہو جائے، اس پر عمر رضی اللہ عنہ نے کہا: ایسا نہ کرو، کیونکہ میں بھی وہی چاہتا تھا جو تم چاہتے ہو۔ نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم مجھے عطایا ( بخشش ) دیتے تھے، تو میں عرض کرتا تھا: آپ اسے دے دیں جو مجھ سے زیادہ اس کا ضرورت مند ہو، یہاں تک کہ ایک بار آپ نے مجھے کچھ مال دیا، میں نے کہا: آپ اسے اس شخص کو دے دیں جو مجھ سے زیادہ اس کا ضرورت مند ہو، تو آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”اسے لے کر اپنے مال میں شامل کر لو، نہیں تو صدقہ کر دو۔ ( سنو! ) اس مال میں سے جو بھی تمہیں بغیر کسی لالچ کے اور بغیر مانگے ملے اس کو لے لو، اور جو نہ ملے اس کے پیچھے نہ پڑو“۔

Abu Rabiah binAl-Harith said to 'Abdul-Muttalib bin Rabi'ah bin Al-Harith and Al-Fadl bin 'Abbas bin 'Abdul-Muttalib: Go to the Messenger of Allah and say to him: 'O Messenger of Allah, appoint us to collect the Sadaqat!' 'Ali bin Abi Talib came along when we were like that, and he said to them: The Messenger of Allah will not appoint any of you to collect the Sadaqah. ' 'Abdul-Muttalib said: So I went with Al-Fadl until we came to the Messenger of Allah and he said to us: This Zakah is the dirt of the people, and it is not permissible for Muhammad or for the family of Muhammad. Bahz bin Hakim narrated from his father that his grandfather said: If something was brought to him, the prophet would ask whether it was a gift or charity. If it was said that if was charity, he would not eat, and if it was said that it was a gift, he would stretch forth his hand.
