Translation

Arabic, English and Urdu

Awf bin Malik said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) offering the (funeral) prayer for one who had died, and I heard him say in his supplication: 'Allahummaghfir lahu warhamhu wa 'afihi was a'fu 'anhu, wa akrim nuzulahu wa wassi' ,adkhalahu waghsilhu bil-ma'i wath-thalji wal-baradi wa naqqihi min al-khataya kama ynaqqath-thawb al-abyad min ad-danas. (O Allah, forgive him and have mercy on him, keep him safe and sound and forgive him, honor the place where he settles and make his entrance wide; wash him with water and snow and hail, and cleanse him of sin as a white garment is cleansed of dirt).

أَخْبَرَنِي هَارُونُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قال:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا مَعْنٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قال:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ حَبِيبِ بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ جُبَيْرِ بْنِ نُفَيْرٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قال:‏‏‏‏ شَهِدْتُ عَوْفَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏يَقُولُ:‏‏‏‏ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُصَلِّي عَلَى مَيِّتٍ فَسَمِعْتُ مِنْ دُعَائِهِ وَهُوَ يَقُولُ:‏‏‏‏ اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لَهُ وَارْحَمْهُ وَعَافِهِ وَاعْفُ عَنْهُ وَأَكْرِمْ نُزُلَهُ وَأَوْسِعْ مُدْخَلَهُ وَاغْسِلْهُ بِالْمَاءِ وَالثَّلْجِ وَالْبَرَدِ وَنَقِّهِ مِنَ الْخَطَايَا كَمَا يُنَقَّى الثَّوْبُ الْأَبْيَضُ مِنَ الدَّنَسِ .

عوف بن مالک رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ میں نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو ایک جنازے پر نماز پڑھتے ہوئے سنا، تو میں نے آپ کی دعا میں سے سنا آپ فرما رہے تھے: «اللہم اغفر له وارحمه وعافه واعف عنه وأكرم نزله وأوسع مدخله واغسله بالماء والثلج والبرد ونقه من الخطايا كما ينقى الثوب الأبيض من الدنس ‏» اے اللہ! اسے بخش دے، اس پر رحم کر، اسے عافیت سے رکھ، اس سے درگزر فرما، اس کی بہترین مہمان نوازی فرما، اس کی جگہ ( قبر ) کشادہ کر دے، اس ( کے گناہوں ) کو پانی، برف اور اولوں سے دھو دے، اور اس کو گناہوں سے اسی طرح پاک کر دے جس طرح سفید کپڑا میل سے پاک کیا جاتا ہے ۔

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: If a dog drinks from the vessel of one of you, let him wash it seven times.

Thabit, the freed slave of 'Abdur-Rahman bin Zaid narrated that he heard Abu Hurairah say: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'If a dog licks the vessel of any one of you, let him wash it seven times.'

It was narrated that Abu Hurairah said: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'If a dog licks the vessel of any one of you, let him throw (the contents) away and wash it seven times.' Abu 'Abdur-Rahman (An-Nasa'i) said: I do not know any one who followed 'Ali bin Mushir in narrating it with: Let him throw it away.

It was narrated from 'Abdullah bin Al-Mughaffal that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) commanded that dogs be killed, but he made an exception for hunting dogs and sheepdogs and said: If a dog licks a vessel then wash it seven times, and rub it the eighth time with dust.

It was narrated from Kabshah bint Ka'b bin Malik that Abu Qatadah entered upon her, then she narrated the following: I poured some water from him for Wudu', and a cat came and drank from it, so he tilted the vessel for it to drink. Kabshah said: He saw me looking at him and said: 'Are you surprised, O daughter of my brother?' I said: 'Yes.' He said: 'The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: They are not impure, rather they are among the males and females (animals) who go around among you.
