It was narrated that Ibn ‘Abbas and Ibn ‘Umar said: “The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) prescribed two Rak’ah of prayer when traveling; they are complete and are not shortened. And Witr when traveling is Sunnah.”

حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيل بْنُ مُوسَى، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا شَرِيكٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ جَابِرٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عَامِرٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ وَابْنِ عُمَرَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَا:‏‏‏‏ سَنَّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ صَلَاةَ السَّفَرِ رَكْعَتَيْنِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَهُمَا تَمَامٌ غَيْرُ قَصْرٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَالْوِتْرُ فِي السَّفَرِ سُنَّةٌ .

عبداللہ بن عباس اور عبداللہ بن عمر رضی اللہ عنہم سے روایت ہے کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے سفر کی نماز دو رکعت مقرر کی ہے، یہ دو رکعت پوری ہے ناقص نہیں، اور سفر میں نماز وتر پڑھنا سنت ہے۔

He said: ‘What kept you?’ I said: ‘I was praying Witr.’ He said: ‘Do you not have the best of examples in the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ)?’ I said: ‘Of course.’ He said: ‘The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to pray Witr while riding his camel.’”
