It was narrated that Ibn ‘Abbas said: “The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said to ‘Abbas bin ‘Abdul-Muttalib: ‘O ‘Abbas, O my uncle, shall I not give you a gift, shall I not give you something, shall I not tell you of something which, if you do it, will expiate for ten types of sins? If you do them, Allah will forgive you your sins, the first and the last of them, the old and the new, the unintentional and the deliberate, the minor and the major, the secret and the open, ten types of sin. Pray four Rak’ah, and recite in each Rak’ah the Opening of the Book (Al-Fatihah) and a Surah. When you have finished reciting in the first Rak’ah, while you are standing, say: Subhan-Allah wal- hamdu Lillah wa la ilaha illallah wa Allahu Akbar (Glory if to Allah, praise is to Allah, none has the right to be worshipped but Allah and Allah is the Most Great) fifteen times. Then bow and say it ten times while you are bowing. Then raise your head from Ruku’ and say it ten times. Then go into prostration and say it ten times while you are prostrating. Then raise your head from prostration and say it ten times. Then prostrate and say it ten times. Then raise your head from prostration and say it ten times. That will be seventy-five times in each Rak’ah. Do that in all four Rak’ah. If you can pray it once each day then do so. If you cannot, then once each week; if you cannot, then once each month. If you cannot, then once in your lifetime.’”

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ بِشْرِ بْنِ الْحَكَمِ النَّيْسَابُورِيُّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا الْحَكَمُ بْنُ أَبَانَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لِلْعَبَّاسِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ:‏‏‏‏ يَا عَبَّاسُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏يَا عَمَّاهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ أَلَا أُعْطِيكَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَلَا أَمْنَحُكَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَلَا أَحْبُوكَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَلَا أَفْعَلُ لَكَ عَشْرَ خِصَالٍ إِذَا أَنْتَ فَعَلْتَ ذَلِكَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏غَفَرَ اللَّهُ لَكَ ذَنْبَكَ أَوَّلَهُ وَآخِرَهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَقَدِيمَهُ وَحَدِيثَهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَخَطَأَهُ وَعَمْدَهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَصَغِيرَهُ وَكَبِيرَهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَسِرَّهُ وَعَلَانِيَتَهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَشْرُ خِصَالٍ:‏‏‏‏ أَنْ تُصَلِّيَ أَرْبَعَ رَكَعَاتٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏تَقْرَأُ فِي كُلِّ رَكْعَةٍ بِفَاتِحَةِ الْكِتَابِ وَسُورَةٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَإِذَا فَرَغْتَ مِنَ الْقِرَاءَةِ فِي أَوَّلِ رَكْعَةٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قُلْتَ وَأَنْتَ قَائِمٌ:‏‏‏‏ سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ وَلَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَاللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ خَمْسَ عَشْرَةَ مَرَّةً، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ثُمَّ تَرْكَعُ فَتَقُولُ وَأَنْتَ رَاكِعٌ عَشْرًا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ثُمَّ تَرْفَعُ رَأْسَكَ مِنَ الرُّكُوعِ فَتَقُولُهَا عَشْرًا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ثُمَّ تَهْوِي سَاجِدًا فَتَقُولُهَا وَأَنْتَ سَاجِدٌ عَشْرًا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ثُمَّ تَرْفَعُ رَأْسَكَ مِنَ السُّجُودِ فَتَقُولُهَا عَشْرًا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ثُمَّ تَسْجُدُ فَتَقُولُهَا عَشْرًا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ثُمَّ تَرْفَعُ رَأْسَكَ مِنَ السُّجُودِ فَتَقُولُهَا عَشْرًا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَذَلِكَ خَمْسَةٌ وَسَبْعُونَ فِي كُلِّ رَكْعَةٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏تَفْعَلُ فِي أَرْبَعِ رَكَعَاتٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏إِنِ اسْتَطَعْتَ أَنْ تُصَلِّيَهَا فِي كُلِّ يَوْمٍ مَرَّةً فَافْعَلْ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَإِنْ لَمْ تَسْتَطِعْ فَفِي كُلِّ جُمُعَةٍ مَرَّةً، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَإِنْ لَمْ تَفْعَلْ فَفِي كُلِّ شَهْرٍ مَرَّةً، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَإِنْ لَمْ تَفْعَلْ فَفِي عُمُرِكَ مَرَّةً .

عبداللہ بن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما کہتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے عباس بن عبدالمطلب رضی اللہ عنہ سے فرمایا: اے عباس! اے چچا جان! کیا میں آپ کو عطیہ نہ دوں؟ کیا میں آپ سے اچھا سلوک نہ کروں؟ کیا میں آپ کو دس خصلتیں نہ بتاؤں کہ اگر آپ اس کو اپنائیں تو اللہ تعالیٰ آپ کے اگلے اور پچھلے، نئے اور پرانے، جانے اور انجانے، چھوٹے اور بڑے، پوشیدہ اور ظاہر سبھی گناہ بخش دے، وہ دس خصلتیں یہ ہیں: آپ چار رکعت پڑھیں، ہر رکعت میں سورۃ فاتحہ اور کوئی اور سورت پڑھیں، جب پہلی رکعت میں قراءت سے فارغ ہو جائیں تو کھڑے کھڑے پندرہ مرتبہ«سبحان الله والحمد لله ولا إله إلا الله والله أكبر» کہیں، پھر رکوع کریں، اور بحالت رکوع اس تسبیح کو دس مرتبہ کہیں، پھر رکوع سے اپنا سر اٹھائیں اور ان کلمات کو دس مرتبہ کہیں، پھر سجدہ میں جائیں اور بحالت سجدہ ان کلمات کو دس مرتبہ کہیں، پھر سجدہ سے اپنا سر اٹھائیں، اور ان کلمات کو دس مرتبہ کہیں، پھر سجدہ کریں، اور ان کلمات کو دس مرتبہ کہیں، پھر سجدہ سے اپنا سر اٹھائیں اور ان کلمات کو دس مرتبہ کہیں، تو یہ ہر رکعت میں پچھتر ( ۷۵ ) مرتبہ ہوا، چاروں رکعتوں میں اسی طرح کریں، اگر آپ سے یہ ہو سکے تو روزانہ یہ نماز ایک مرتبہ پڑھیں، اور اگر یہ نہ ہو سکے تو ہفتہ میں ایک بار پڑھیں، اور اگر یہ بھی نہ ہو سکے تو مہینے میں ایک بار پڑھیں، اگر یہ بھی نہ ہو سکے تو اپنی عمر میں ایک بار پڑھیں۔

It was narrated that ‘Ali bin Abu Talib said: “The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: ‘When it is the night of the middle of Sha’ban, spend its night in prayer and observe a fast on that day. For Allah descends at sunset on that night to the lowest heaven and says: ‘Is there no one who will ask Me for forgiveness, that I may forgive him? Is there no one who will ask Me for provision, that I may provide for him? Is there no one who is afflicted by trouble, that I may relieve him?’ And so on, until dawn comes.’”

It was narrated that ‘Aishah said: “I missed the Prophet (ﷺ) one night, so I went out looking for him. I found him at Al-Baqi’, raising his head towards the sky. He said: ‘O ‘Aishah, were you afraid that Allah and His Messenger would wrong you?’” She said: “I said: ‘No, it is not that, but I thought that you had gone to one of your other wives.’ He said: ‘Allah descends on the night of the middle of Sha’ban to the lowest heaven, and He forgives more than the numbers of hairs on the sheep of Banu Kalb.’”

It was narrated from Abu Musa Al-Ash’ari that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “Allah looks down on the night of the middle of Sha’ban and forgives all His creation, apart from the idolater and the Mushahin.” Another chain from Abu Musa, from the Prophet (ﷺ) with similar wording.

It was narrated from ‘Abdullah bin Abu Awfa that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) prayed two Rak’ah on the day when he was given the glad tidings of the head (death) of Abu Jahl.
