Translation

Arabic, english and urdu

It was narrated from Umm Salamah from the Prophet (ﷺ) regarding: “And that they will not disobey you in Ma’ruf (all that is good in Islam);” he said: “(It is about) wailing.”

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ مَوْلَى الصَّهْبَاءِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ شَهْرِ بْنِ حَوْشَبٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:‏‏‏‏ وَلا يَعْصِينَكَ فِي مَعْرُوفٍ سورة الممتحنة آية 12 ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ النَّوْحُ.

ام المؤمنین ام سلمہ رضی اللہ عنہا کہتی ہیں کہ نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے آیت کریمہ: «ولا يعصينك في معروف» ( سورة الممتنحة: 12 ) نیک باتوں میں تمہاری نافرمانی نہ کریں کی تفسیر کے سلسلہ میں فرمایا: اس سے مراد نوحہ ہے ۱؎ ۔

Jarir, the freed slave of Mu’awiyah, said: “Mu’awiyah delivered a sermon in Hims, and in his sermon he mentioned that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) forbade wailing.”

It was narrated from Abu Malik Ash’ari that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: ‘Wailing is one of the affairs of the Days of Ignorance, and if the woman who wails dies without having repented, Allah will cut a garment of pitch (tar) for her and a shirt of flaming fire.’”

It was narrated from Ibn ‘Abbas that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “Wailing over the dead is one of the affairs of the Days of Ignorance and if the woman who wails does not repent before she dies, she will be resurrected on the Day of Resurrection wearing a shirt of pitch (tar), over which she will wear a shirt of flaming fire.”

It was narrated that Ibn ‘Umar said: “The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) forbade following a funeral that was accompanied by a wailing woman.”

It was narrated from ‘Abdullah that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “He is not one of us who tears his garments, strikes his cheeks, and cries with the cry of the Days of Ignorance.’”

It was narrated from Abu Umamah that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) cursed the woman who scratches her face and rends her garment and cries that she is doomed (i.e. because of the death of this person).
