Asma’ bint ‘Umais said: “When Ja’far was killed, the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) went to his family and said: ‘The family of Ja’far are busy with the matter of their deceased, so prepare food for them.’”

حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ خَلَفٍ أَبُو سَلَمَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْأَعْلَى، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْحَاق، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أُمِّ عِيسَى الْجَزَّارِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَتْ:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَتْنِي أُمُّ عَوْنٍ ابْنَةُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ جَعْفَرٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ جَدَّتِهَا أَسْمَاءَ بِنْتِ عُمَيْسٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَتْ:‏‏‏‏ لَمَّا أُصِيبَ جَعْفَرٌ رَجَعَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِلَى أَهْلِهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ إِنَّ آلَ جَعْفَرٍ قَدْ شُغِلُوا بِشَأْنِ مَيِّتِهِمْ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَاصْنَعُوا لَهُمْ طَعَامًا ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ:‏‏‏‏ فَمَا زَالَتْ سُنَّةً حَتَّى كَانَ حَدِيثًا فَتُرِكَ.

اسماء بنت عمیس رضی اللہ عنہا کہتی ہیں کہ جب جعفر رضی اللہ عنہ قتل کر دئیے گئے، تو رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم اپنے گھر والوں کے پاس آئے، اور فرمایا: جعفر کے گھر والے اپنی میت کے مسئلہ میں مشغول ہیں، لہٰذا تم لوگ ان کے لیے کھانا بناؤ ۔ عبداللہ بن مسعود رضی اللہ عنہ نے کہا کہ یہ طریقہ برابر چلا آ رہا تھا یہاں تک کہ اس میں بدعت آ داخل ہوئی، تو اسے چھوڑ دیا گیا ۱؎۔

It was narrated that Jarir bin ‘Abdullah Al-Bajali said: “We used to think that gathering with the family of the deceased and preparing food was a form of wailing.”

It was narrated from Ibn ‘Abbas that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: Dying in a strange land is martyrdom.”

It was narrated that ‘Abdullah bin ‘Amr said: “A man died in Al- Madinah, and he was one of those who were born in Al-Madinah. The Prophet (ﷺ) offered the funeral prayer for him and said: “Would that he had died somewhere other than his birthplace.” A man among the people said: “Why, O Messenger of Allah?” He said: “If a man dies somewhere other than his birthplace, a space will be measured for him in Paradise (as big as the distance) from the place where he was born to the place where he died.”

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “Whoever dies from a sickness dies as a martyr. He is protected from the torment of the grave and he is granted provision from Paradise morning and evening.”

It was narrated from ‘Aishah that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “Breaking the bones of the deceased is like breaking his bones when he is alive.”
