It was narrated from Habib bin Maslamah that the Prophet (ﷺ) awarded one third (of the spoils of war) after the one fifth (had been taken).
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ وَعَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَا:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ سُفْيَانَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ يَزِيدَ بْنِ جَابِرٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْمَكْحُولٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ جَارِيَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ حَبِيبِ بْنِ مَسْلَمَةَ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَفَّلَ الثُّلُثَ بَعْدَ الْخُمُسِ .
حبیب بن مسلمہ رضی اللہ عنہ سے روایت ہے کہ   نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم مال غنیمت میں سے خمس ( پانچواں حصہ جو اللہ اور اس کے رسول کا حق ہے ) نکال لینے کے بعد مال غنیمت کا ایک تہائی بطور نفل ہبہ اور عطیہ دیتے ۱؎۔

I was not given anything from the spoils of war but I was given from the least of the utensils (goods) a sword, which I dragged when I put it around my waist.”

It was narrated that Safwan bin ‘Assil said: “The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) sent us in a military detachment and said: ‘Go in the Name of Allah, and in the cause of Allah. Fight those who disbelieve in Allah. Do not mutilate, do not be treacherous, do not steal from the spoils of war, and do not kill children.’”
