Translation

‘Abdullah bin Kinanah bin ‘Abbas bin Mirdas As-Sulami narrated that his father told him, from his father, that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) prayed for forgiveness for his nation one evening at ‘Arafat, and the response came: “I have forgiven them, except for the wrongdoer, with whom I will settle the score in favor of the one whom he wronged.” He said: “O Lord, if You will, then grant Paradise to the one who is wronged, and forgive the wrongdoer.” No response came (that evening).The next day at Muzdalifah he repeated the supplication, and received a response to what he asked for. He (the narrator) said: “The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) laughed,” or he said, “He smiled. Abu Bakr and ‘Umar said to him: ‘May my father and mother be ransomed for you, this is not a time when you usually laugh. What made you laugh, may Allah make your years filled with laughter?’ He said: ‘The enemy of Allah, Iblis, when he came to know that Allah answered my prayer and forgiven my nation, took some dust and started to sprinkle it on his head, uttering cries of woe and doom, and what I saw of his anguish made me laugh.’”

حَدَّثَنَا أَيُّوبُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْهَاشِمِيُّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْقَاهِرِ بْنُ السَّرِيِّ السُّلَمِيُّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ كِنَانَةَ بْنِ عَبَّاسِ بْنِ مِرْدَاسٍ السُّلَمِيُّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَنَّ أَبَاهُ أَخْبَرَهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِيهِ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ دَعَا لِأُمَّتِهِ عَشِيَّةَ عَرَفَةَ بِالْمَغْفِرَةِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَأُجِيبَ:‏‏‏‏ إِنِّي قَدْ غَفَرْتُ لَهُمْ مَا خَلَا الظَّالِمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَإِنِّي آخُذُ لِلْمَظْلُومِ مِنْهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ أَيْ رَبِّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏إِنْ شِئْتَ أَعْطَيْتَ الْمَظْلُومَ مِنَ الْجَنَّةِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَغَفَرْتَ لِلظَّالِمِ ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَلَمْ يُجَبْ عَشِيَّتَهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَلَمَّا أَصْبَحَ بِالْمُزْدَلِفَةِ أَعَادَ الدُّعَاءَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَأُجِيبَ إِلَى مَا سَأَلَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ فَضَحِكَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَوْ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ تَبَسَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ لَهُ أَبُو بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرُ:‏‏‏‏ بِأَبِي أَنْتَ وَأُمِّي، ‏‏‏‏‏‏إِنَّ هَذِهِ لَسَاعَةٌ مَا كُنْتَ تَضْحَكُ فِيهَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَمَا الَّذِي أَضْحَكَكَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَضْحَكَ اللَّهُ سِنَّكَ؟، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ إِنَّ عَدُوَّ اللَّهِ إِبْلِيسَ لَمَّا عَلِمَ أَنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ قَدِ اسْتَجَابَ دُعَائِي وَغَفَرَ لِأُمَّتِي، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَخَذَ التُّرَابَ فَجَعَلَ يَحْثُوهُ عَلَى رَأْسِهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَيَدْعُو بِالْوَيْلِ وَالثُّبُورِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَأَضْحَكَنِي مَا رَأَيْتُ مِنْ جَزَعِهِ .

عباس بن مرداس سلمی رضی اللہ عنہ سے روایت ہے کہ نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے عرفہ کی شام کو اپنی امت کی مغفرت کی دعا کی، تو آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو جواب ملا کہ میں نے انہیں بخش دیا، سوائے ان کے جو ظالم ہوں، اس لیے کہ میں اس سے مظلوم کا بدلہ ضرور لوں گا، آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: اے رب! اگر تو چاہے تو مظلوم کو جنت دے اور ظالم کو بخش دے ، لیکن اس شام کو آپ کو جواب نہیں ملا، پھر جب آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے مزدلفہ میں صبح کی تو پھر یہی دعا مانگی، آپ کی درخواست قبول کر لی گئی، تو آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ہنسے یا مسکرائے، پھر آپ سے ابوبکرو عمر رضی اللہ عنہما نے عرض کیا: ہمارے ماں باپ آپ پر فدا ہوں، یہ ایسا وقت ہے کہ آپ اس میں ہنستے نہیں تھے تو آپ کو کس چیز نے ہنسایا؟ اللہ آپ کو ہنساتا ہی رہے، آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: اللہ کے دشمن ابلیس کو جب معلوم ہوا کہ اللہ نے میری دعا قبول فرما لی ہے، اور میری امت کو بخش دیا ہے، تو وہ مٹی لے کر اپنے سر پر ڈالنے لگا اور کہنے لگا: ہائے خرابی، ہائے تباہی! جب میں نے اس کا یہ تڑپنا دیکھا تو مجھے ہنسی آ گئی ۔

It was narrated from Ibn Musayyab that ‘Aishah said that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “There is no day on which Allah ransoms more slaves from the Fire than the Day of ‘Arafah. He draws closer and closer, then He boasts about them before the angels and says: ‘What do these people want?’”

Sufyan bin Bukair bin ‘Ata’ said: “I heard ‘Abdur-Rahman bin Ya’mur Dili say: ‘I saw the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) when he was standing at ‘Arafat, and some people from Najd came to him and said: “O Messenger of Allah, what is Hajj?” He said: “Hajj is ‘Arafah. Whoever comes before Fajr prayer on the night of Jam’, he has completed his Hajj. The days at Mina are three. ‘But whosoever hastens to leave in two days, there is no sin on him and whosoever stays on, there is no sin on him.’” [2:203] Then he seated a man behind him on his mount and he started calling out these words.’”

It was narrated from ‘Urwah bin Mudarris At-Ta’i that he performed Hajj during the time of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), and he did not catch up with the people until they were at Jam’ (Al-Muzdalifah). He said: “I came to the Prophet (ﷺ) and said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, I have made my camel lean (because of the long journey) and I have worn myself out. By Allah, there is no sand hill on which I did not stand. Have I performed Hajj?’ The Prophet (ﷺ) said: ‘Whoever attended the prayer (i.e., Fajr at Muzdalifah) with us and departed from ‘Arafat, by night or day, may remove the dirt and has completed his Hajj.’”

It was narrated from Usamah bin Zaid that he was asked: “How did the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) travel when he departed from ‘Arafat?” He said: “He moved at a quick pace, and when he reached an open space he would make his camel run.”

It was narrated that ‘Aishah said: “The Quraish said: ‘We are the neighbors of the House and we do not leave the sanctuary.’ Allah said: ‘Then depart from the place whence all the people depart.’” [2:199]

It was narrated that Usamah bin Zaid said: “I departed from ‘Arafat with the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), and when he reached the mountain path at which the chiefs would dismount, he dismounted and urinated, then performed ablution. I said: ‘(Is it time for) prayer?’ He said: ‘The prayer is still ahead of you.’ When he reached Jam’ (Muzdalifah) he called the Adhan and Iqamah, then he prayed Maghrib. Then no one among the people unloaded (the camels) until he had prayed ‘Isha’.”
