Translation

It was narrated that Safiyyah bint Shaibah said: “I heard the Prophet (ﷺ) delivering a sermon in the Year of the Conquest (of Makkah), and he said: ‘O people, Allah made Makkah sacred the day He created the heavens and the earth, and it is sacred until the Day of Resurrection. Its trees are not to be cut, its game is not to be disturbed, and its lost property is not to be taken except by one who will announce it.’‘Abbas said: ‘Except for Idhkhir (a kind of fragrant grass), for it is (used) for houses and graves.’ The messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: ‘Except for Idhkhir.’”

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ نُمَيْرٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا يُونُسُ بْنُ بُكَيْرٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاق، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا أَبَانُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ مُسْلِمِ بْنِ يَنَّاقٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ صَفِيَّةَ بِنْتِ شَيْبَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَتْ:‏‏‏‏ سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَخْطُبُ عَامَ الْفَتْحِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ إِنَّ اللَّهَ حَرَّمَ مَكَّةَ يَوْمَ خَلَقَ السَّمَوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَهِيَ حَرَامٌ إِلَى يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏لَا يُعْضَدُ شَجَرُهَا وَلَا يُنَفَّرُ صَيْدُهَا وَلَا يَأْخُذُ لُقْطَتَهَا إِلَّا مُنْشِدٌ ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ الْعَبَّاسُ:‏‏‏‏ إِلَّا الْإِذْخِرَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَإِنَّهُ لِلْبُيُوتِ وَالْقُبُورِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:‏‏‏‏ إِلَّا الْإِذْخِرَ .

صفیہ بنت شیبہ رضی اللہ عنہا کہتی ہیں کہ میں نے نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو فتح مکہ کے سال خطبہ دیتے ہوئے سنا، آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: لوگو! اللہ نے مکہ کو اسی دن حرام قرار دے دیا جس دن اس نے آسمان و زمین کو پیدا کیا، اور وہ قیامت تک حرام رہے گا، نہ وہاں کا درخت کاٹا جائے گا، نہ وہاں کا شکار بدکایا جائے گا، اور نہ وہاں کی گری پڑی چیز اٹھائی جائے گی، البتہ اعلان کرنے والا اٹھا سکتا ہے ، اس پر عباس رضی اللہ عنہ نے کہا: اذخر ( نامی گھاس ) کا اکھیڑنا جائز فرما دیجئیے کیونکہ وہ گھروں اور قبروں کے کام آتی ہے، آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: اچھا اذخر اکھاڑنا جائز ہے ۔

It was narrated from ‘Ayyash bin Abu Rabi’ah (Makhzumi) that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: ‘The goodness of this nation will not cease as long as they revere this sanctuary* as it is due. But when they lose that reverence, they will be doomed.”
