It was narrated from 'Abdullah bin Mas'ud: The Messenger of Allah went to the toilet and said: 'Bring me three stones.' So I brought him two stones and a piece of dung. He took the two stones and threw the dung away, saying: 'It is impure.'
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ خَلَّادٍ الْبَاهِلِيُّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ الْقَطَّانُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ زُهَيْرٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاق، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ لَيْسَ أَبُو عُبَيْدَةَ ذَكَرَهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَلَكِنْ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ الْأَسْوَدِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ الْأَسْوَدِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَتَى الْخَلَاءَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ ائْتِنِي بِثَلَاثَةِ أَحْجَارٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَأَتَيْتُهُ بِحَجَرَيْنِ وَرَوْثَةٍ فَأَخَذَ الْحَجَرَيْنِ وَأَلْقَى الرَّوْثَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ هِيَ رِكْسٌ .
عبداللہ بن مسعود رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ   رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم قضائے حاجت کے لیے گئے اور فرمایا: میرے پاس تین پتھر لاؤ ، عبداللہ بن مسعود رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ میں دو پتھر اور گوبر کا ایک ٹکڑا لے کر آیا تو آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے دونوں پتھر لے لیے اور گوبر پھینک دیا، اور فرمایا: یہ ناپاک ہے ۱؎۔

It was narrated that Khuzaimah bin Thabit said: The Messenger of Allah said: 'For cleaning yourself you need three stones, no one of them being dung.'

Salman said that one of the idolaters said to him, while they were making fun of him: I see that your companion (the Prophet) is teaching you everything, even how to relieve yourselves? He said: Yes indeed. He has ordered us not to face the Qiblah (prayer direction) nor to clean ourselves with our right hands, and not to be content with anything less than three stones, which are not to include any excrement or bones.
