It was narrated that ‘Ikrash bin Dhu’aib said: “The Prophet (ﷺ) was brought a bowl filled with Tharid and fatty meat, and we started to eat from it. My hand was wandering all over, so he said: ‘O ‘Ikrash, eat from one spot, for it is all the same food.’ Then we were brought a plate on which were different kinds of fresh dates, and he hand of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) went all around the plate. He said: ‘O ‘Ikrash, eat from wherever you want, for they are not all the same.’”

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا الْعَلَاءُ بْنُ الْفَضْلِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ أَبِي السَّوِيَّةِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنِي عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عِكْرَاشٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِيهِ عِكْرَاشِ بْنِ ذُؤَيْبٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ أُتِيَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِجَفْنَةٍ كَثِيرَةِ الثَّرِيدِ وَالْوَدَكِ،‏‏‏‏ فَأَقْبَلْنَا نَأْكُلُ مِنْهَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَخَبَطْتُ يَدِي فِي نَوَاحِيهَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ يَا عِكْرَاشُ كُلْ مِنْ مَوْضِعٍ وَاحِدٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَإِنَّهُ طَعَامٌ وَاحِدٌ ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ثُمَّ أُتِينَا بِطَبَقٍ فِيهِ أَلْوَانٌ مِنَ الرُّطَبِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَجَالَتْ يَدُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي الطَّبَقِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ يَا عِكْرَاشُ كُلْ مِنْ حَيْثُ شِئْتَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَإِنَّهُ غَيْرُ لَوْنٍ وَاحِدٍ .

عکراش بن ذویب رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کی خدمت میں ایک لگن لایا گیا جس میں بہت سا ثرید اور روغن تھا، ہم سب اس میں سے کھانے لگے، میں اپنا ہاتھ پیالے میں ہر طرف پھرا رہا تھا تو نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: عکراش! ایک جگہ سے کھاؤ، اس لیے کہ یہ پورا ایک ہی کھانا ہے ، پھر ایک طبق لایا گیا جس میں مختلف اقسام کی تازہ کھجوریں تھیں تو رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کا ہاتھ طبق میں چاروں طرف گھومنے لگا، آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: عکراش! جہاں سے جی چاہے کھاؤ، اس لیے کہ اس میں کئی طرح کی کھجوریں ہیں ۔

‘Abdullah bin Busr narrated that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) was brought a bowl (of food). The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “Eat from the sides and leave the top, so that it may be blessed.”

It was narrated that Wathilah bin Asqa’ Al-Laithi said: “The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) took hold of the top of the Tharid and said: ‘Eat in the Name of Allah from its sides and leave the top, for the blessing comes from its top.’”

It was narrated from Ibn ‘Abbas that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “When food is served, take from the sides and leave the middle, for the blessing descends in the middle.”

It was narrated from Hasan about Ma’qil bin Yasar: “While (he) was eating lunch, a morsel of food fell on the floor. He picked it up, removed whatever dirt had gotten onto it, and ate it. The villagers and farmers winked at one another (finding it odd) and it was said: ‘May Allah help the chief! These villagers and farmers are winking at one another because you picked up a morsel (from the ground) when you have this food in front of you.’ He said: ‘I am not going to give up something I heard from the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) for these non- Arabs. We were told, if one of us dropped a morsel of food, to pick it up, remove whatever dirt was on it, and eat it, and not to leave it for Satan.’”

It was narrated from Jabir that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “If a morsel falls from the hand of anyone of you, let him wipe off whatever dirt that is on it and eat it.”

It was narrated from Abu Musa Al-Ash’ari that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: “Many men have attained perfection but no women have attained perfection except Maryam bint ‘Imran (Mary) and Asiyah the wife of Fir’awn. And the superiority of ‘Aishah over other women is like the superiority of Tharid over all other foods.”
