Translation

It was narrated from ‘Umar bin Khattab that he went out one day to the mosque of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), and he found Mu’adh bin Jabal sitting by the grave of the Prophet (ﷺ), weeping. He said: “Why are you weeping?” He said: “I am weeping because of something that I heard from the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ). I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say: ‘A little showing off is polytheism and whoever shows enmity towards a friend of Allah has declared war on Allah. Allah loves those who se righteousness and piety are hidden, those who, if they are absent, are not missed, and if they are present, they are not invited or acknowledged. Their hearts are lamps of guidance and they get out of every trial and difficulty.’”

حَدَّثَنَا حَرْمَلَةُ بْنُ يَحْيَى،‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ وَهْبٍ،‏‏‏‏ أَخْبَرَنِي ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ،‏‏‏‏ عَنْ عِيسَى بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ،‏‏‏‏ عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَسْلَمَ،‏‏‏‏ عَنْ أَبِيهِ،‏‏‏‏ عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ،‏‏‏‏ أَنَّهُ خَرَجَ يَوْمًا إِلَى مَسْجِدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ،‏‏‏‏ فَوَجَدَ مُعَاذَ بْنَ جَبَلٍ قَاعِدًا عِنْدَ قَبْرِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَبْكِي،‏‏‏‏ فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ مَا يُبْكِيكَ؟ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ يُبْكِينِي شَيْءٌ سَمِعْتُهُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ،‏‏‏‏ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ،‏‏‏‏ يَقُولُ:‏‏‏‏ إِنَّ يَسِيرَ الرِّيَاءِ شِرْكٌ،‏‏‏‏ وَإِنَّ مَنْ عَادَى لِلَّهِ وَلِيًّا فَقَدْ بَارَزَ اللَّهَ بِالْمُحَارَبَةِ،‏‏‏‏ إِنَّ اللَّهَ يُحِبُّ الْأَبْرَارَ الْأَتْقِيَاءَ الْأَخْفِيَاءَ،‏‏‏‏ الَّذِينَ إِذَا غَابُوا لَمْ يُفْتَقَدُوا،‏‏‏‏ وَإِنْ حَضَرُوا لَمْ يُدْعَوْا،‏‏‏‏ وَلَمْ يُعْرَفُوا قُلُوبُهُمْ مَصَابِيحُ الْهُدَى،‏‏‏‏ يَخْرُجُونَ مِنْ كُلِّ غَبْرَاءَ مُظْلِمَةٍ .

عمر بن خطاب رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ ایک دن وہ مسجد نبوی کی جانب گئے، تو وہاں معاذ بن جبل رضی اللہ عنہ کو دیکھا کہ نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کی قبر کے پاس بیٹھے رو رہے ہیں، انہوں نے معاذ رضی اللہ عنہ سے رونے کا سبب پوچھا، تو معاذ رضی اللہ عنہ نے کہا: مجھے ایک ایسی بات رلا رہی ہے جو میں نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے سنی تھی، میں نے آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو فرماتے سنا: معمولی ریاکاری بھی شرک ہے، بیشک جس نے اللہ کے کسی دوست سے دشمنی کی، تو اس نے اللہ سے اعلان جنگ کیا، اللہ تعالیٰ ان نیک، گم نام متقی لوگوں کو محبوب رکھتا ہے جو اگر غائب ہو جائیں تو کوئی انہیں تلاش نہیں کرتا، اور اگر وہ حاضر ہو جائیں تو لوگ انہیں کھانے کے لیے نہیں بلاتے، اور نہ انہیں پہچانتے ہیں، ان کے دل ہدایت کے چراغ ہیں، ایسے لوگ ہر گرد آلود تاریک فتنے سے نکل جائیں گے ۔

It was narrated from ‘Abdullah bin ‘Umar that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “People are like a hundred camels; you can hardly find one worth riding among them.”

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “The Jews split into seventy-one sects and my nation will split into seventy-three sects.”

It was narrated from ‘Awf bin Malik that the Messenger of Allah(ﷺ) said: “The Jews split into seventy-one sects, one of which will be in Paradise and seventy in Hell. The Christians split into seventy-two sects, seventy-one of which will be in Hell and one in Paradise. I swear by the One Whose Hand is the soul of Muhammad, my nation will split into seventy-three sects, one of which will be in Paradise and seventy-two in Hell.” It was said: “O Messenger of Allah, who are they?” He said: “The main body.”

It was narrated from Anas bin Malik that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: ‘The Children of Israel split into seventy-one sects, and my nation will split into seventy-two, all of which will be in Hell apart from one, which is the main body.”

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “You will most certainly follow the ways of those who came before you, arm’s length by arm’s length, forearm’s length by forearm’s length, hand span by hand span, until even if they entered a hole of a mastigure (lizard) you will enter it too.” They said: “O Messenger of Allah, (do you mean) the Jews and the Christians?” He said: “Who else?”

Abu Sa’eed Al-Khudri said: “The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) stood up and addressed the people saying: ‘No, by Allah, I do not fear for you, O people, but I fear the attractions of this world that Allah brings forth for you.’ A man said to him: ‘O Messenger of Allah(ﷺ), does good bring forth evil?’ The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) remained silent for a while, then he said: ‘What did you say?’ He said: ‘I said, does good bring forth evil?’ The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: ‘Good does not bring forth anything but good, but is it really good? Everything that grows on the banks of a stream may either kill if overeaten or (at least) make the animals sick, except if an animal eats its fill of Khadir* and then faces the sun, and then defecates and urinates, chews the cud and then returns to graze again. Whoever takes wealth in a lawful manner, it will be blessed for him, but whoever takes it in an unlawful manner, his likeness is that of one who eats and it never satisfied.’”
