Shuayb ibn Zurayq at-Taifi said: I sat with a man who had been in the company of the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم. He was called al-Hakam ibn Hazn al-Kulafi. He began to narrate a tradition to us saying: I came to the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم in a delegation consisting of seven or nine persons. We entered upon him and said: Messenger of Allah, we have visited you, so pray Allah what is good for us. He ordered to give us some dates. The Muslims in those days were weak. We stayed there for several days and offered the Friday prayer along with the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم. He stood leaning on a staff or a bow. He praised Allah and exalted Him in light, pure and blessed words. Then he said: O people, you have no power to obey or you cannot obey what you are ordered. But be straight and give good tidings. Abu Ali said: Did you hear Abu Dawud ? He said: Some of my companions reminded me of some words that were omitted from writing on the paper.

حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا شِهَابُ بْنُ خِرَاشٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنِي شُعَيْبُ بْنُ زُرَيْقٍ الطَّائِفِيُّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ جَلَسْتُ إِلَى رَجُلٍ لَهُ صُحْبَةٌ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏يُقَالُ لَهُ:‏‏‏‏ الْحَكَمُ بْنُ حَزْنٍ الْكُلَفِيُّ فَأَنْشَأَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏يُحَدِّثُنَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ وَفَدْتُ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ سَابِعَ سَبْعَةٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَوْ تَاسِعَ تِسْعَةٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَدَخَلْنَا عَلَيْهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقُلْنَا:‏‏‏‏ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏زُرْنَاكَ فَادْعُ اللَّهَ لَنَا بِخَيْرٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَأَمَرَ بِنَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَوْ أَمَرَ لَنَا بِشَيْءٍ مِنَ التَّمْرِ وَالشَّأْنُ إِذْ ذَاكَ دُونٌ فَأَقَمْنَا بِهَا أَيَّامًا شَهِدْنَا فِيهَا الْجُمُعَةَ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَامَ مُتَوَكِّئًا عَلَى عَصًا أَوْ قَوْسٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَحَمِدَ اللَّهَ وَأَثْنَى عَلَيْهِ كَلِمَاتٍ خَفِيفَاتٍ طَيِّبَاتٍ مُبَارَكَاتٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ثُمَّ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏إِنَّكُمْ لَنْ تُطِيقُوا أَوْ لَنْ تَفْعَلُوا كُلَّ مَا أُمِرْتُمْ بِهِ وَلَكِنْ سَدِّدُوا وَأَبْشِرُوا . قَالَ أَبُو عَلِيٍّ:‏‏‏‏ سَمِعْت أَبُو دَاوُد، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ ثَبَّتَنِي فِي شَيْءٍ مِنْهُ بَعْضُ أَصْحَابِنَا وَقَدْ كَانَ انْقَطَعَ مِنَ الْقِرْطَاسِ.

شہاب بن خراش کہتے ہیں کہ شعیب بن زریق طائفی نے مجھ سے بیان کیا ہے کہ میں ایک شخص کے پاس ( جسے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے شرف صحبت حاصل تھا، اور جسے حکم بن حزن کلفی کہا جاتا تھا ) بیٹھا تو وہ ہم سے بیان کرنے لگا کہ میں ایک وفد میں رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے پاس آیا، میں اس وفد کا ساتواں یا نواں آدمی تھا، ہم آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے پاس آئے تو ہم نے عرض کیا: اللہ کے رسول! ہم نے آپ کی زیارت کی ہے تو آپ ہمارے لیے خیر و بہتری کی دعا فرما دیجئیے، تو آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے کچھ کھجوریں ہم کو دینے کا حکم دیا اور حالت اس وقت ناگفتہ بہ تھی، پھر ہم وہاں کچھ روز ٹھہرے رہے، ہم رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے ساتھ جمعہ میں بھی حاضر رہے، آپ ایک عصا یا کمان پر ٹیک لگا کر کھڑے ہوئے چند ہلکے، پاکیزہ اور مبارک کلمات کے ذریعہ اللہ کی حمد و ثنا بیان کی پھر فرمایا: لوگو! تم سارے احکام کو جن کا تمہیں حکم دیا جائے بجا لانے کی ہرگز طاقت نہیں رکھتے یا تم نہیں بجا لا سکتے، لیکن درستی پر قائم رہو اور خوش ہو جاؤ ۔ ابوعلی کہتے ہیں کہ میں نے ابوداؤد کو کہتے ہوئے سنا کہ ہمارے بعض ساتھیوں نے کچھ کلمات مجھے ایسے لکھوائے جو کاغذ سے کٹ گئے تھے۔

Narrated Abdullah ibn Masud: When the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم addressed, he would say: Praise be to Allah, from Whom we seek help and pardon, and we seek refuge in Allah from the evils of our souls. He whom Allah guide has no one who can lead him astray, and he whom He leads astray has no one to guide him. And I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger. He sent him before the coming of the last hour with truth giving good tidings and warning. He who obeys Allah and His Messenger follows the right path; and he who disobeys them shall harm none except himself, and he will not harm Allah in the least.

Narrated Ibn Shihab: Yunus asked Ibn Shihab about the address of the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم on Friday. He mentioned it in like manner. He added: Anyone who disobeys them (Allah and His Messenger) goes astray. We beseech Allah, our Lord, to make us from those who obey Him and obey His Messenger, and follow what He likes, and abstain from His anger; we are due to Him and we belong to Him.

Adi bin Hatim said: A speaker delivered a speech in the presence of the Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم. He said: Anyone who obeys Allah and His Messenger, and one who disobeys them. He said: Go away, you are a bad speaker.

Bint al-Harith bin al-Numan said: I memorized Surah al-Qaf from the mouth of the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم; he would recite it in his speech on every friday. Our oven and his oven were same. Abu Dawud said: Rawh bin Ubadah reported on the authority of Shubah the name Bint Harithah bin al-Numan ; and Ibn Ishaq reported the name of Umm Hisham hint Harithah bin al-Numan.

Jabir bin Samurah said: The prayer offered by the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم was moderate, and the sermon given by him was (also) moderate. He would recite a few verses from the Quran and exhort the people.

Umrah reported on the authority of her sister: I memorized Surah al-Qaf from the mouth of the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم; he used to recite it on every friday. Abu Dawud said: This tradition has been narrated in a similar way by Yahya bin Ayyub, Ibn Abu Ar-Rijal, from Yahya bin Saeed, from Umrah from Umm Hisham hint Harithah bin al-Numan.
