Abu Aishah said: Saeed bin al-As asked Abu Musa al-Ashari and Hudhaifah bin al-Yaman: How would the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم utter the takbir (Allah is most great) in the prayer of the day of sacrifice and of the breaking of the fast. Abu Musa said: He uttered takbir four times as he did at funerals. Hudhaifah said: He is correct. Then Abu Musa said: I used to utter the takbir in a similar way when I was the governor of Basrah. Abu Aishah said: I was present there when Saeed bin al-As asked.

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْعَلَاءِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَابْنُ أَبِي زِيَادٍ الْمَعْنَى قَرِيبٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَا:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا زَيْدٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ حُبَابٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ ثَوْبَانَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِيهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ مَكْحُولٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو عَائِشَةَ جَلِيسٌ لِأَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَنَّ سَعِيدَ بْنَ الْعَاصِ سَأَلَ أَبَا مُوسَى الْأَشْعَرِيَّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَحُذَيْفَةَ بْنَ الْيَمَانِ:‏‏‏‏ كَيْفَ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُكَبِّرُ فِي الْأَضْحَى وَالْفِطْرِ ؟ فَقَالَ أَبُو مُوسَى:‏‏‏‏ كَانَ يُكَبِّرُ أَرْبَعًا تَكْبِيرَهُ عَلَى الْجَنَائِزِ ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ حُذَيْفَةُ:‏‏‏‏ صَدَقَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ أَبُو مُوسَى:‏‏‏‏ كَذَلِكَ كُنْتُ أُكَبِّرُ فِي الْبَصْرَةِ حَيْثُ كُنْتُ عَلَيْهِمْ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وقَالَ أَبُو عَائِشَةَ:‏‏‏‏ وَأَنَا حَاضِرٌ سَعِيدَ بْنَ الْعَاصِ.

مکحول کہتے ہیں کہ ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ عنہ کے ہم نشیں ابوعائشہ نے مجھے خبر دی ہے کہ سعید بن العاص نے ابوموسیٰ اشعری اور حذیفہ بن یمان رضی اللہ عنہما سے پوچھا کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم عید الاضحی اور عید الفطر میں کیسے تکبیریں کہتے تھے؟ تو ابوموسیٰ نے کہا: چار تکبیریں کہتے تھے جنازہ کی چاروں تکبیروں کی طرح، یہ سن کر حذیفہ نے کہا: انہوں نے سچ کہا، اس پر ابوموسیٰ نے کہا: میں اتنی ہی تکبیریں بصرہ میں کہا کرتا تھا، جہاں پر میں حاکم تھا، ابوعائشہ کہتے ہیں: اس ( گفتگو کے وقت ) میں سعید بن العاص کے پاس موجود تھا۔

Ubaid Allah bin Abdullah bin Utbah bin Masud said: Umar bin al-Khattab asked Abu Waqid al-Laithi: What did the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم recite during the prayer on the day of sacrifice and on the breaking of the fast ? He replied: He recited at both of them Surah al-Qaf, By the Glorious Quran [50] and the Surah The Hour is nigh (54).

Narrated Abdullah ibn as-Saib: I attended the Eid prayer along with the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم. When he finished the prayer, he said: We shall deliver the sermon; he who likes to sit for listening to it may sit and he who likes to go away may go away. Abu Dawud said: this is a mursal tradition (i. e. the successor Ata directly reporting from the Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم and omitting the link of the Companions).

Narrated Abdullah ibn Umar: The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم went out by one road on the day of the Eid (festival) and returned by another.

Narrated Abu Umayr ibn Anas: Abu Umayr reported on the authority of some of his paternal uncles who were Companions of the Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم: Some men came riding to the Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم and testified that they had sighted the new moon the previous day. He (the Holy Prophet), therefore, commanded the people to break the fast and to go out to their place of prayer in the morning.

Narrated Bakr ibn Mubashshir al-Ansari: I used to go to the place of prayer on the day of the breaking of the fast, and on the day of sacrifice along with the Companions of the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم. We would walk through a valley known as Batn Bathan till we came to the place of prayer. Then we would pray along with the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم and return through Batn Bathan to our house.

Narrated Abu Hurairah: The rain fell on the day of Eid (festival), so the Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم led them (the people) in the Eid prayer in the mosque.
