Umm Salamah said that she asked the prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم; Can a woman pray in a shirt and veil without wearing a lower garment? He replied: if the shirt is ample and covers the surface of her feet. Abu Dawud said: This tradition has been transmitted by Malik bin Anas, Bakr bin Mudar, Hafs bin Ghiyaht, Ismail bin Jafar, Ibn Abu Dhi'b, and Ibn Ishaq from Muhammad bin Zaid on the authority of his mother who narrated from Umm Salamah. None of these narrators mention the name of the Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم. They reported it directly from Umm Salamah.

الْحَدِيثِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَنَّهَا سَأَلَتِ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:‏‏‏‏ أَتُصَلِّي الْمَرْأَةُ فِي دِرْعٍ وَخِمَارٍ لَيْسَ عَلَيْهَا إِزَارٌ ؟ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ إِذَا كَانَ الدِّرْعُ سَابِغًا يُغَطِّي ظُهُورَ قَدَمَيْهَا ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ أَبُو دَاوُد:‏‏‏‏ رَوَى هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ مَالِكُ بْنُ أَنَسٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَبَكْرُ بْنُ مُضَرَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَحَفْصُ بْنُ غِيَاثٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَإِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَابْنُ أَبِي ذِئْبٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَابْنُ إِسْحَاقَ،‏‏‏‏عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أُمِّهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏لَمْ يَذْكُرْ أَحَدٌ مِنْهُمُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَصَرُوا بِهِ عَلَى أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا.

ام المؤمنین ام سلمہ رضی اللہ عنہا فرماتی ہیں کہ انہوں نے نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے پوچھا: کیا عورت کرتہ اور اوڑھنی میں جب کہ وہ ازار ( تہبند ) نہ پہنے ہو، نماز پڑھ سکتی ہے؟ آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ( پڑھ سکتی ہے ) جب کرتہ اتنا لمبا ہو کہ اس کے دونوں قدموں کے اوپری حصہ کو ڈھانپ لے ۔ ابوداؤد کہتے ہیں: اس حدیث کو مالک بن انس، بکر بن مضر، حفص بن غیاث، اسماعیل بن جعفر، ابن ابی ذئب اور ابن اسحاق نے محمد بن زید سے، محمد بن زید نے اپنی والدہ سے، اور محمد بن زید کی والدہ نے ام المؤمنین ام سلمہ رضی اللہ عنہا سے روایت کیا ہے، لیکن ان میں سے کسی نے بھی نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کا ذکر نہیں کیا ہے، بلکہ ام سلمہ رضی اللہ عنہا پر ہی اسے موقوف کر دیا ہے۔

Narrated Aishah, Ummul Muminin: The Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم said: Allah does not accept the prayer of a woman who has reached puberty unless she wears a veil. Abu Dawud said: This tradition has been narrated by Sa;id bin Abi 'Arubah from Qatadah on the authority of al-Hasan from the Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم.

Muhammad said: Aishah came to Sufiyyah Umm Talhat al-Talhat and seeing her daughter she said: The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم entered (into the house) and there was a girl in my apartment. He gave his lower garment (wrapper) to me and said; tear it into two pieces and give one-half to this (girl) and the other half to the girl with Umm Salamah. I think she has reached puberty, or (he said) I think have reached puberty. Abu Dawud said: Hisham has narrated it similarly from Muhammad bin sirin.

Narrated Abu Hurairah: The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم forbade trailing garments during prayer and that a man should cover his mouth. Abu Dawud said: This tradition has also been narrated by 'Isi on the authority of Ata from Abu Hurairah: The Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم forbade trailing garments during prayer.

Ibn Juraij said; I often saw Ata praying while letting his garment trail. Abu Dawud said: This (practice of Ata) weakens the tradition (narrated by Abu Hurairah).

Aishah said; The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم would not pray on our sheets of cloth or on our quits. Ubaid allah said: My father doubted.

Narrated Abu Rafi: Saeed ibn Abu Saeed al-Maqburi reported on the authority of his father that he saw Abu Rafi the freed slave of the Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم, passing by Hasan ibn Ali (Allah be pleased with them) when he was standing offering his prayer. He had tied the back knot of his hair. Abu Rafi untied it. Hasan turned to him with anger, Abu Rafi said to him: Concentrate on your prayer and do not be angry: I heard the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم say: This is the seat of the devil, referring to the back knot of the hair.
