Translation

It was narrated that 'Abdur-Rahman bin Abu laila said: Abu Laila used to travel with 'Ali, and he used to wear summer clothes in winter and winter clothes in summer. We said: 'Why don't you ask him (about that)?' He said: The Messenger of Allah sent for me and my eyes were sore, on the Day of Khaibar. I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, my eyes are sore.' He put some spittle into my eyes, then he said: 'O Allah, take heat and cold away from him.' I never felt hot or cold again after that day. He (the Prophet) said: 'I will send a man who loves Allah and His Messenger, and whom Allah and His Messenger love, and he is not one who flees from the battlefield.' The people craned their necks to see, and he sent for 'Ali and gave it (the banner) to him.

حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي لَيْلَى حَدَّثَنَا الْحَكَمُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ كَانَ أَبُو لَيْلَى يَسْمُرُ مَعَ عَلِيٍّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَكَانَ يَلْبَسُ ثِيَابَ الصَّيْفِ فِي الشِّتَاءِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَثِيَابَ الشِّتَاءِ فِي الصَّيْفِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقُلْنَا:‏‏‏‏ لَوْ سَأَلْتَهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بَعَثَ إِلَيَّ وَأَنَا أَرْمَدُ الْعَيْنِ يَوْمَ خَيْبَرَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قُلْتُ:‏‏‏‏ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنِّي أَرْمَدُ الْعَيْنِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَتَفَلَ فِي عَيْنِي ثُمَّ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ اللَّهُمَّ أَذْهِبْ عَنْهُ الْحَرَّ وَالْبَرْدَ ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ فَمَا وَجَدْتُ حَرًّا وَلَا بَرْدًا بَعْدَ يَوْمِئِذٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ لَأَبْعَثَنَّ رَجُلًا يُحِبُّ اللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَيُحِبُّهُ اللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏لَيْسَ بِفَرَّارٍ فَتَشَوَّفَ لَهَا النَّاسُ ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَبَعَثَ إِلَى عَلِيٍّ فَأَعْطَاهَا إِيَّاهُ.

عبدالرحمٰن بن ابی لیلیٰ کہتے ہیں ابولیلیٰ رات میں علی رضی اللہ عنہ کے ساتھ بات چیت کیا کرتے تھے، اور علی رضی اللہ عنہ گرمی کے کپڑے جاڑے میں اور جاڑے کے کپڑے گرمی میں پہنا کرتے تھے، ہم نے ابولیلیٰ سے کہا: کاش آپ ان سے اس کا سبب پوچھتے تو بہتر ہوتا، پوچھنے پر علی رضی اللہ عنہ نے ( جواباً ) کہا: رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے مجھے غزوہ خیبر کے موقع پر اپنے پاس بلا بھیجا، اس وقت میری آنکھ دکھ رہی تھی، اور ( حاضر خدمت ہو کر ) میں نے عرض کیا: اللہ کے رسول! میری آنکھیں آئی ہوئی ہیں، میں مبتلا ہوں، آپ نے میری آنکھوں میں لعاب دہن لگایا، پھر دعا فرمائی: اے اللہ اس سے سردی اور گرمی کو دور رکھ ۔ علی رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں: اس دن کے بعد سے آج تک میں نے سردی اور گرمی کو محسوس ہی نہیں کیا، اور آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: میں ایسے آدمی کو ( جہاد کا قائد بنا کر ) بھیجوں گا جو اللہ اور اس کے رسول سے محبت کرتا ہے، اور اللہ اور اس کے رسول اس سے محبت کرتے ہیں، اور وہ میدان جنگ سے بھاگنے والا نہیں ہے ۔ لوگ ایسے شخص کو دیکھنے کے لیے گردنیں اونچی کرنے لگے، آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے علی رضی اللہ عنہ کو بلایا، اور جنگ کا جھنڈا ان کے ہاتھ میں دے دیا ۱؎۔

It was narrated that Sa`d bin Waqqas said: Mu`awiyah came on one of his pilgrimages and Sa`d entered upon him. They mentioned `Ali, and Mu`awiyah criticized him. Sa`d became angry and said: 'Are you saying this of a man of whom I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say: If I am a person's close friend, `Ali is also his close friend. And I heard him say: You are to me like Harun was to Musa, except that there will be no Prophet after me. And I heard him say: I will give the banner today to a man who loves Allah and His Messenger.

It was narrated that Jabir said: The Messenger of Allah said on the Day of Quraizah: 'Who will bring us news of the people?' Zubair said: 'I will.' The Prophet said: 'Who will bring us news of the people?' Zubair said: 'I will,' three times. Every Prophet has a Hawari (sincere supporter or disciple) and my Hawari is Zubair.'
