It was narrated from Sharik bin ‘Abdullah bin Abu Namir that he heard Anas bin Malik say: “While we were sitting in the mosque, a man entered riding a camel; he made it kneel in the mosque, then he hobbled it and said to them: ‘Which of you is Muhammad?’ The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) was reclining among them, so they said: ‘This fair- skinned man who is reclining.’ The man said to him: ‘O son of ‘Abdul- Muttalib!’ The Prophet (ﷺ) said: ‘I am listening to you.’ The man said: O Muhammad! I am asking you and will be stern in asking, so do not bear any ill-feelings towards me.’ He said: ‘Ask whatever you think.’ The man said: ‘I adjure you by your Lord and the Lord of those who came before you, has Allah sent you to all of mankind?’ The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: ‘By Allah, yes.; He said: ‘I adjure you by Allah, has Allah commanded you to pray the five prayers each day and night?’ The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: ‘By Allah, yes.’ He said: ‘I adjure you by Allah, has Allah commanded you to fast this month of each year?’ The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: ‘By Allah, yes.’ He said: ‘I adjure you by Allah, has Allah commanded you to take this charity from our rich and distribute it among our poor?’ The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: ‘By Allah, yes.’ The man said: ‘I believe in what you have brought, and I am the envoy of my people who are behind me. I am Dimam bin Tha’labah, the brother of Banu Sa’d bin Bakr.’

حَدَّثَنَا عِيسَى بْنُ حَمَّادٍ الْمِصْرِيُّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَنْبَأَنَا اللَّيْثُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ سَعِيدٍ الْمَقْبُرِيِّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ شَرِيكِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي نَمِرٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ يَقُولُ:‏‏‏‏ بَيْنَمَا نَحْنُ جُلُوسٌ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏دَخَلَ رَجُلٌ عَلَى جَمَلٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَأَنَاخَهُ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ثُمَّ عَقَلَهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ثُمَّ قَالَ لَهُمْ:‏‏‏‏ أَيُّكُمْ مُحَمَّدٌ؟ وَرَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مُتَّكِئٌ بَيْنَ ظَهْرَانَيْهِمْ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ فَقَالُوا:‏‏‏‏ هَذَا الرَّجُلُ الْأَبْيَضُ الْمُتَّكِئُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ لَهُ الرَّجُلُ:‏‏‏‏ يَا ابْنَ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ لَهُ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:‏‏‏‏ قَدْ أَجَبْتُكَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ لَهُ الرَّجُلُ:‏‏‏‏ يَا مُحَمَّدُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏إِنِّي سَائِلُكَ وَمُشَدِّدٌ عَلَيْكَ فِي الْمَسْأَلَةِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَلَا تَجِدَنَّ عَلَيَّ فِي نَفْسِكَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ سَلْ مَا بَدَا لَكَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ لَهُ الرَّجُلُ:‏‏‏‏ نَشَدْتُكَ بِرَبِّكَ وَرَبِّ مَنْ قَبْلَكَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏آللَّهُ أَرْسَلَكَ إِلَى النَّاسِ كُلِّهِمْ؟ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:‏‏‏‏ اللَّهُمَّ نَعَمْ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ فَأَنْشُدُكَ بِاللَّهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏آللَّهُ أَمَرَكَ أَنْ تُصَلِّيَ الصَّلَوَاتِ الْخَمْسَ فِي الْيَوْمِ وَاللَّيْلَةِ؟، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:‏‏‏‏ اللَّهُمَّ نَعَمْ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ فَأَنْشُدُكَ بِاللَّهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏آللَّهُ أَمَرَكَ أَنْ تَصُومَ هَذَا الشَّهْرَ مِنَ السَّنَةِ؟، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:‏‏‏‏ اللَّهُمَّ نَعَمْ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ فَأَنْشُدُكَ بِاللَّهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏آللَّهُ أَمَرَكَ أَنْ تَأْخُذَ هَذِهِ الصَّدَقَةَ مِنْ أَغْنِيَائِنَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَتَقْسِمَهَا عَلَى فُقَرَائِنَا؟، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:‏‏‏‏ اللَّهُمَّ نَعَمْ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ الرَّجُلُ:‏‏‏‏ آمَنْتُ بِمَا جِئْتَ بِهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَأَنَا رَسُولُ مَنْ وَرَائِي مِنْ قَوْمِي ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَأَنَا ضِمَامُ بْنُ ثَعْلَبَةَ أَخُو بَنِي سَعْدِ بْنِ بَكْرٍ.

انس بن مالک رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ ایک دفعہ ہم مسجد نبوی میں بیٹھے ہوئے تھے کہ اتنے میں اونٹ پر سوار ایک شخص آیا، اور اسے مسجد میں بٹھایا، پھر اسے باندھ دیا، پھر پوچھنے لگا: تم میں محمد کون ہیں؟ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم لوگوں کے درمیان ٹیک لگائے ہوئے بیٹھے تھے، لوگوں نے کہا: یہ ہیں جو سفید رنگ والے، اور تکیہ لگائے بیٹھے ہیں، اس شخص نے آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے کہا: اے عبدالمطلب کے بیٹے! نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے اس سے کہا: ہاں، میں نے تمہاری بات سن لی ، تو اس شخص نے کہا: اے محمد! میں آپ سے ایک سوال کرنے والا ہوں، اور سوال میں سختی برتنے والا ہوں، تو آپ دل میں مجھ پر ناراض نہ ہوں، آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: تم جو چاہو پوچھو ، اس شخص نے کہا: میں آپ کو آپ کے رب کی قسم دیتا ہوں، اور آپ سے پہلے لوگوں کے رب کی قسم دیتا ہوں، کیا اللہ تعالیٰ نے آپ کو سب لوگوں کی جانب نبی بنا کر بھیجا ہے؟ آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: یا اللہ! ہاں ، پھر اس شخص نے کہا: میں آپ کو اللہ کی قسم دیتا ہوں، کیا اللہ تعالیٰ نے آپ کو دن رات میں پانچ وقت نماز پڑھنے کا حکم دیا ہے؟ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: یا اللہ! ہاں ، پھر اس شخص نے کہا: میں آپ کو اللہ کی قسم دیتا ہوں، کیا اللہ تعالیٰ نے آپ کو سال کے اس مہینہ میں روزہ رکھنے کا حکم دیا ہے؟ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: یا اللہ! ہاں ، اس شخص نے کہا: میں آپ کو اللہ کی قسم دے کر پوچھتا ہوں: کیا اللہ نے آپ کو حکم دیا ہے کہ ہمارے مالداروں سے زکاۃ و صدقات لیں، اور اس کو ہمارے غریبوں میں تقسیم کریں؟ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: یا اللہ! ہاں ، تو اس شخص نے کہا: میں آپ کی لائی ہوئی شریعت پہ ایمان لایا، اور میں اپنی قوم کے ان لوگوں کے لیے پیغام رساں کی حیثیت سے ہوں جو پیچھے رہ گئے ہیں، اور میں قبیلہ بنو سعد بن بکر کا ایک فرد ضمام بن ثعلبہ ہوں۔

Sa’eed bin Musayyab said that Abu Qatadah bin Rib’i told him that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “Allah said: ‘I have enjoined on your nation five prayers, and I have made a covenant with Myself that whoever maintains them, I will admit them to Paradise, and whoever does not maintain them, has no such covenant with Me.’”

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “One prayer in this mosque of mine is better than a thousand prayers anywhere else, except The Sacred Mosque (Al-Masjid Al-Haram).” (Another chain) from Abu Hurairah from the Prophet (ﷺ) with similar wording.

It was narrated from Ibn ‘Umar that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: “One prayer in this mosque of mine is better than one thousand prayers in any other mosque except the Sacred Mosque.”

It was narrated from Jabir that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “One prayer in my mosque is better than one thousand prayers elsewhere, except the Sacred Mosque, and one prayer in the Sacred Mosque is better than one hundred thousand prayers elsewhere.”

It was narrated that Maimunah the freed (female) slave of the Prophet (ﷺ) said: I said: “O Messenger of Allah, tell us about Baitil- Maqdis.” He said: “It is the land of the Resurrection and the Gathering. Go and pray there, for one prayer there is like one thousand prayers elsewhere.” I said: “What if I cannot travel and go there?” He said: “Then send a gift of oil to light its lamps, for whoever does that is like one who goes there.”

It was narrated from ‘Abdullah bin ‘Amr that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: “When Sulaiman bin Dawud finished building Baitil-Maqdis, he asked Allah for three things: judgment that was in harmony with His judgment, a dominion that no one after him would have, and that no one should come to this mosque, intending only to pray there, but he would emerge free of sin as the day his mother bore him.” The Prophet (ﷺ) said: “Two prayers were granted, and I hope that the third was also granted.”
