Translation

Arabic, english and urdu

It was narrated that ‘Ali said: “The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) went out and saw some women sitting, and he said: ‘What are you sitting here for?’ They said: ‘We are waiting for the funeral.’ He said: ‘Are you going to wash the deceased?’ They said: ‘No.’ He said: ‘Are you going to lower him into the grave?’ They said: ‘No.’ He said: ‘Then go back with a burden of sin and not rewarded.’”

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُصَفَّى الْحِمْصِيُّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا إِسْرَائِيلُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيل بْنِ سَلْمَانَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ دِينَارٍ أَبِي عُمَرَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنِ ابْنِ الْحَنَفِيَّةِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عَلِيٍّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ خَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَإِذَا نِسْوَةٌ جُلُوسٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ مَا يُجْلِسُكُنَّ؟ ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قُلْنَ:‏‏‏‏ نَنْتَظِرُ الْجِنَازَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ هَلْ تَغْسِلْنَ؟ ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قُلْنَ:‏‏‏‏ لَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ هَلْ تَحْمِلْنَ؟ ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قُلْنَ:‏‏‏‏ لَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ هَلْ تُدْلِينَ فِيمَنْ يُدْلِي؟ ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قُلْنَ:‏‏‏‏ لَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ فَارْجِعْنَ مَأْزُورَاتٍ غَيْرَ مَأْجُورَاتٍ .

علی رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نکلے اور کئی عورتیں بیٹھی ہوئی تھیں، آپ نے پوچھا: تم لوگ کیوں بیٹھی ہوئی ہو ؟ انہوں نے کہا: ہم جنازے کا انتظار کر رہی ہیں، آپ نے پوچھا: کیا تم لوگ جنازے کو غسل دو گی ؟ انہوں نے کہا: نہیں، آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے پوچھا: کیا اسے اٹھاؤ گی ؟ انہوں نے کہا: نہیں، آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے پوچھا: کیا تم بھی ان لوگوں کے ساتھ جنازہ قبر میں اتارو گی جو اسے اتاریں گے ؟ انہوں نے کہا: نہیں، آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: تم لوگ گناہ گار ہو کر ثواب سے خالی ہاتھ ( اپنے گھروں کو ) واپس جاؤ ۔

It was narrated from Umm Salamah from the Prophet (ﷺ) regarding: “And that they will not disobey you in Ma’ruf (all that is good in Islam);” he said: “(It is about) wailing.”

Jarir, the freed slave of Mu’awiyah, said: “Mu’awiyah delivered a sermon in Hims, and in his sermon he mentioned that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) forbade wailing.”

It was narrated from Abu Malik Ash’ari that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: ‘Wailing is one of the affairs of the Days of Ignorance, and if the woman who wails dies without having repented, Allah will cut a garment of pitch (tar) for her and a shirt of flaming fire.’”

It was narrated from Ibn ‘Abbas that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “Wailing over the dead is one of the affairs of the Days of Ignorance and if the woman who wails does not repent before she dies, she will be resurrected on the Day of Resurrection wearing a shirt of pitch (tar), over which she will wear a shirt of flaming fire.”

It was narrated that Ibn ‘Umar said: “The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) forbade following a funeral that was accompanied by a wailing woman.”

It was narrated from ‘Abdullah that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “He is not one of us who tears his garments, strikes his cheeks, and cries with the cry of the Days of Ignorance.’”
