It was narrated from Umm Salamah that Abu Salamah told her that he heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say: “There is no Muslim who is stricken with a calamity and reacts by saying as Allah has commanded: ‘Inna lillahi, wa inna ilayhi raji’un. Allahumma indakah-tasabtu musibati, fajurni iha, wa ‘awwidni minha (Truly, to Allah we belong and truly, to Him we shall return. O Allah, with You I seek reward for my calamity, so reward me for it and compensate me),’ but Allah will reward him for that and compensate him with something better than it.” She said: “When Abu Salamah died, I remembered what he had told me from the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and I said: ‘Inna lillahi, wa inna ilayhi raji’un. Allahumma indakah-tasabtu musibati, fajurni ihaiha (Truly, to Allah we belong and truly, to Him we shall return. O Allah, with You I seek reward for my calamity, so reward me for it).’ But when I wanted to say wa ‘awwidni minha (and compensate me with better), I said to myself: ‘How can I be compensated with something better than Abu Salamah?’ Then I said it, and Allah compensated me with Muhammad (ﷺ) and rewarded me for my calamity.”

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَنْبَأَنَا عَبْدُ الْمَلِكِ بْنُ قُدَامَةَ الْجُمَحِيُّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِيهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْعُمَرَ بْنِ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَنَّ أَبَا سَلَمَةَ حَدَّثَهَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏يَقُولُ:‏‏‏‏ مَا مِنْ مُسْلِمٍ يُصَابُ بِمُصِيبَةٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَيَفْزَعُ إِلَى مَا أَمَرَ اللَّهُ بِهِ مِنْ قَوْلِهِ:‏‏‏‏ إِنَّا لِلَّهِ وَإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏اللَّهُمَّ عِنْدَكَ احْتَسَبْتُ مُصِيبَتِي فَأْجُرْنِي فِيهَا وَعُضْنِي مِنْهَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏إِلَّا آجَرَهُ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهَا وَعَاضَهُ خَيْرًا مِنْهَا ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَتْ:‏‏‏‏ فَلَمَّا تُوُفِّيَ أَبُو سَلَمَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ذَكَرْتُ الَّذِي حَدَّثَنِي عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقُلْتُ:‏‏‏‏ إِنَّا لِلَّهِ وَإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏اللَّهُمَّ عِنْدَكَ احْتَسَبْتُ مُصِيبَتِي هَذِهِ فَأْجُرْنِي عَلَيْهَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَإِذَا أَرَدْتُ أَنْ أَقُولَ:‏‏‏‏ وَعِضْنِي خَيْرًا مِنْهَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قُلْتُ فِي نَفْسِي:‏‏‏‏ أُعَاضُ خَيْرًا مِنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ثُمَّ قُلْتُهَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَعَاضَنِي اللَّهُ مُحَمَّدًا صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَآجَرَنِي فِي مُصِيبَتِي.

ام المؤمنین ام سلمہ رضی اللہ عنہا سے روایت ہے کہ ابوسلمہ رضی اللہ عنہ نے ان سے بیان کیا: انہوں نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو فرماتے سنا: جس مسلمان کو کوئی مصیبت پیش آئے، تو وہ گھبرا کر اللہ کے فرمان کے مطابق یہ دعا پڑھے: «إنا لله وإنا إليه راجعون اللهم عندك احتسبت مصيبتي فأجرني فيها وعضني منها» ہم اللہ ہی کی ملک ہیں اور اسی کی جانب لوٹ کر جانے والے ہیں، اے اللہ! میں نے تجھی سے اپنی مصیبت کا ثواب طلب کیا، تو مجھے اس میں اجر دے، اور مجھے اس کا بدلہ دے جب یہ دعا پڑھے گا تو اللہ تعالیٰ اس کا اجر دے گا، اور اس سے بہتر اس کا بدلہ عنایت کرے گا ۔ ام سلمہ رضی اللہ عنہا کہتی ہیں: جب ( میرے شوہر ) ابوسلمہ رضی اللہ عنہ کا انتقال ہو گیا، تو مجھے وہ حدیث یاد آئی، جو انہوں نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے سن کر مجھ سے بیان کی تھی، چنانچہ میں نے کہا: «إنا لله وإنا إليه راجعون اللهم عندك احتسبت مصيبتي فأجرني فيها وعضني منها» اور جب «وعضني خيرا منها» مجھے اس سے بہتر بدلا دے کہنے کا ارادہ کیا تو دل میں سوچا: کیا مجھے ابوسلمہ رضی اللہ عنہ سے بہتر بدلہ دیا جا سکتا ہے؟ پھر میں نے یہ جملہ کہا، تو اللہ تعالیٰ نے مجھے محمد صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو ان کے بدلہ میں دے دیا اور میری مصیبت کا بہترین اجر مجھے عنایت فرمایا۔

It was narrated that ‘Aishah said: “The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) opened a door that was between him and the people or drew back a curtain and he saw the people praying behind Abu Bakr. He praised Allah for what he saw of their good situation and hoped that Allah succeed him by what he saw in them.* He said: ‘O people, whoever among the people or among the believers is stricken with a calamity, then let him console himself with the loss of me, for no one among my nation will be stricken with any calamity worse than my loss.’”

It was narrated from Fatimah bint Husain that her father said: The Prophet (ﷺ) said: “Whoever was stricken with a calamity and when he remembers it he says ‘Inna lillahi, wa inna ilayhi raji’un (Truly, to Allah we belong and truly, to Him we shall return),’ even though it happened a long time ago, Allah will record for him a reward like that of the day it befell him.”

Qais, Abu ‘Umarah, the freed slave of the Ansar, said: “I heard ‘Abdullah bin Abu Bakr bin Muhammad bin ‘Amr bin Hazm narrating from his father, from his grandfather, that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: ‘There is no believer who consoles for his brother for a calamity, but Allah will clothe him with garments of honor on the Day of Resurrection.’”

It was narrated that ‘Abdullah said: “The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: ‘Whoever consoles a person stricken by calamity will have a reward equal to his.’”

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: “No man who loses three of his children will ever enter the Fire, except in fulfillment of the oath (of Allah).”*

‘Utbah bin ‘Abd Sulami said: “I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say: ‘There is no Muslim, three of whose children die before reaching the age of puberty, but they will meet him at the eight gates of Paradise and whichever one he wants he will enter through it.’”
