It was narrated that Abu Qatadah said: While he was on this pulpit, I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) saying: ' Beware of narrating too many Ahadith from me. Whoever attributes something to me, let him speak the truth faithfully. Whoever attributes to say something that I did not say, let him take his place in Hell.

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَعْلَى التَّيْمِيُّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْحَاق، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ مَعْبَدِ بْنِ كَعْبٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِي قَتَادَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ عَلَى هَذَا الْمِنْبَرِ:‏‏‏‏ إِيَّاكُمْ وَكَثْرَةَ الْحَدِيثِ عَنِّي، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَمَنْ قَالَ عَلَيَّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَلْيَقُلْ حَقًّا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَوْ صِدْقًا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَمَنْ تَقَوَّلَ عَلَيَّ مَا لَمْ أَقُلْ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَلْيَتَبَوَّأْ مَقْعَدَهُ مِنَ النَّارِ .

ابوقتادۃ رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ میں نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو اس منبر پر فرماتے سنا: تم مجھ سے زیادہ حدیثیں بیان کرنے سے بچو، اگر کوئی میرے حوالے سے کوئی بات کہے تو وہ صحیح صحیح اور سچ سچ کہے، اور جو شخص گھڑ کر میری طرف ایسی بات منسوب کرے جو میں نے نہیں کہی تو وہ جہنم میں اپنا ٹھکانہ بنا لے ۔

It was narrated from 'Amir bin 'Abdullah bin Zubair that his father said: I said to Zubair bin Awwam: 'Why do I not hear you narrating Ahadith from the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) as I hear Ibn Mas'ud and so-and-so and so-and-so?' He said: 'I never left him from the time I became Muslim, but I heard him say a word: 'Whoever tells a lie about me deliberately, let him take his place in Hell.

It was narrated from Abu Sa'eed said: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'Whoever tells lies about me deliberately, let him take his place in Hell.
