It was narrated that Thawban said: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'Nothing extends one's life span but righteousness, nothing averts the Divine Decree but supplication, and nothing deprives a man of provision but the sin that he commits.'
حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ سُفْيَانَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عِيسَى، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي الْجَعْدِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْثَوْبَانَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:‏‏‏‏ لَا يَزِيدُ فِي الْعُمْرِ إِلَّا الْبِرُّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَلَا يَرُدُّ الْقَدَرَ إِلَّا الدُّعَاءُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَإِنَّ الرَّجُلَ لَيُحْرَمُ الرِّزْقَ بِخَطِيئَةٍ يَعْمَلُهَا .
ثوبان رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ   رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: عمر کو نیکی کے سوا کوئی چیز نہیں بڑھاتی ۱؎، اور تقدیر کو دعا کے سوا کوئی چیز نہیں بدلتی ہے ۲؎، اور آدمی گناہوں کے ارتکاب کے سبب رزق سے محروم کر دیا جاتا ہے ۔

It was narrated that Suraqah bin Ju'shum said: I said: 'O Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), is one's deed in that which has already dried of the Pen and what has passed of the Divine Decree, or is it in the future?' He said: 'No, it is in that which he already dried of the Pen and what has passed of the Divine Decree, and each person is facilitated for what he has been created.'
