Zaid bin Qunfudh said that his mother asked Umm Salamah: In how many clothes should a woman pray? She replied; she would pray wearing a veil and a long shirt which covers the surface of her feet.

حَدَّثَنَا الْقَعْنَبِيُّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ مَالِكٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ زَيْدِ بْنِ قُنْفُذٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أُمِّهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَنَّهَا سَأَلَتْ أُمَّ سَلَمَةَ:‏‏‏‏ مَاذَا تُصَلِّي فِيهِ الْمَرْأَةُ مِنَ الثِّيَابِ ؟ فَقَالَتْ:‏‏‏‏ تُصَلِّي فِي الْخِمَارِ وَالدِّرْعِ السَّابِغِ الَّذِي يُغَيِّبُ ظُهُورَ قَدَمَيْهَا .

ام حرام والدہ محمد بن زید سے روایت ہے کہ انہوں نے ام المؤمنین ام سلمہ رضی اللہ عنہا سے پوچھا: عورت کتنے کپڑوں میں نماز پڑھے؟ تو انہوں نے کہا: وہ اوڑھنی اور ایک ایسے لمبے کرتے میں نماز پڑھے جو اس کے دونوں قدموں کے اوپری حصہ کو چھپا لے۔

Umm Salamah said that she asked the prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم; Can a woman pray in a shirt and veil without wearing a lower garment? He replied: if the shirt is ample and covers the surface of her feet. Abu Dawud said: This tradition has been transmitted by Malik bin Anas, Bakr bin Mudar, Hafs bin Ghiyaht, Ismail bin Jafar, Ibn Abu Dhi'b, and Ibn Ishaq from Muhammad bin Zaid on the authority of his mother who narrated from Umm Salamah. None of these narrators mention the name of the Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم. They reported it directly from Umm Salamah.

Narrated Aishah, Ummul Muminin: The Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم said: Allah does not accept the prayer of a woman who has reached puberty unless she wears a veil. Abu Dawud said: This tradition has been narrated by Sa;id bin Abi 'Arubah from Qatadah on the authority of al-Hasan from the Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم.

Muhammad said: Aishah came to Sufiyyah Umm Talhat al-Talhat and seeing her daughter she said: The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم entered (into the house) and there was a girl in my apartment. He gave his lower garment (wrapper) to me and said; tear it into two pieces and give one-half to this (girl) and the other half to the girl with Umm Salamah. I think she has reached puberty, or (he said) I think have reached puberty. Abu Dawud said: Hisham has narrated it similarly from Muhammad bin sirin.

Narrated Abu Hurairah: The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم forbade trailing garments during prayer and that a man should cover his mouth. Abu Dawud said: This tradition has also been narrated by 'Isi on the authority of Ata from Abu Hurairah: The Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم forbade trailing garments during prayer.

Ibn Juraij said; I often saw Ata praying while letting his garment trail. Abu Dawud said: This (practice of Ata) weakens the tradition (narrated by Abu Hurairah).
