Narrated Abu Saeed al-Khudri: While the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم was leading his Companions in prayer, he took off his sandals and laid them on his left side; so when the people saw this, they removed their sandals. When the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم finished his prayer, he asked: What made you remove your sandals? The replied: We saw you remove your sandals, so we removed our sandals. The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم then said: Gabriel came to me and informed me that there was filth in them. When any of you comes to the mosque, he should see; if he finds filth on his sandals, he should wipe it off and pray in them.

حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِي نَعَامَةَ السَّعْدِيِّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِي نَضْرَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ بَيْنَمَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُصَلِّي بِأَصْحَابِهِ إِذْ خَلَعَ نَعْلَيْهِ فَوَضَعَهُمَا عَنْ يَسَارِهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَلَمَّا رَأَى ذَلِكَ الْقَوْمُ أَلْقَوْا نِعَالَهُمْ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَلَمَّا قَضَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ صَلَاتَهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ مَا حَمَلَكُمْ عَلَى إِلْقَاءِ نِعَالِكُمْ ؟ قَالُوا:‏‏‏‏ رَأَيْنَاكَ أَلْقَيْتَ نَعْلَيْكَ فَأَلْقَيْنَا نِعَالَنَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:‏‏‏‏ إِنَّ جِبْرِيلَ عَلَيْهِ السلام أَتَانِي فَأَخْبَرَنِي أَنَّ فِيهِمَا قَذَرًا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَوْ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ أَذًى، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ إِذَا جَاءَ أَحَدُكُمْ إِلَى الْمَسْجِدِ فَلْيَنْظُرْ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَإِنْ رَأَى فِي نَعْلَيْهِ قَذَرًا أَوْ أَذًى فَلْيَمْسَحْهُ وَلْيُصَلِّ فِيهِمَا .

ابو سعید خدری رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم صحابہ کرام کے ساتھ نماز پڑھ رہے تھے کہ اچانک آپ نے اپنے جوتوں کو اتار کر انہیں اپنے بائیں جانب رکھ لیا، جب لوگوں نے یہ دیکھا تو ( آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کی اتباع میں ) انہوں نے بھی اپنے جوتے اتار لیے، جب رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نماز پڑھ چکے تو آپ نے فرمایا: تم لوگوں نے اپنے جوتے کیوں اتار لیے؟ ، ان لوگوں نے کہا: ہم نے آپ کو جوتے اتارتے ہوئے دیکھا تو ہم نے بھی اپنے جوتے اتار لیے، اس پر رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: میرے پاس جبرائیل علیہ السلام آئے اور انہوں نے مجھے بتایا کہ آپ کے جوتوں میں نجاست لگی ہوئی ہے ۔ راوی کو شک ہے کہ آپ نے: «قذرا» کہا، یا: «أذى» کہا، اور فرمایا: جب تم میں سے کوئی مسجد میں آئے تو وہ اپنے جوتے دیکھ لے اگر ان میں نجاست لگی ہوئی نظر آئے تو اسے زمین پر رگڑ دے اور ان میں نماز پڑھے ۔
