Narrated Abdullah ibn Masud: I heard the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم say: He who lets his garment trail during prayer out of pride, Allah, the Almighty, has nothing to do with pardoning him and protecting him from Hell.
حَدَّثَنَا زَيْدُ بْنُ أَخْزَمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو دَاوُدَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِي عَوَانَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عَاصِمٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِي عُثْمَانَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنِ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏يَقُولُ:‏‏‏‏ مَنْ أَسْبَلَ إِزَارَهُ فِي صَلَاتِهِ خُيَلَاءَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَلَيْسَ مِنَ اللَّهِ فِي حِلٍّ وَلَا حَرَامٍ ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ أَبُو دَاوُد:‏‏‏‏ رَوَى هَذَا جَمَاعَةٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عَاصِمٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏مَوْقُوفًا عَلَى ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏مِنْهُمْ حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَحَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَأَبُو الْأَحْوَصِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَأَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ.
عبداللہ بن مسعود رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ   میں نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو فرماتے سنا: جو شخص نماز میں غرور و تکبر کی وجہ سے اپنا تہہ بند ( ٹخنوں سے نیچے ) لٹکائے گا تو اللہ تعالیٰ نہ اس کے لیے جنت حلال کرے گا، نہ اس پر دوزخ حرام کرے گا ؛ یا نہ اس کے گناہ بخشے گا اور نہ اسے برے کاموں سے بچائے گا ۔ ابوداؤد کہتے ہیں: اسے ایک جماعت نے عاصم کے واسطے سے ابن مسعود رضی اللہ عنہ سے موقوفاً روایت کیا ہے، انہیں میں سے حماد بن سلمہ، حماد بن زید، ابوالاحوص اور ابومعاویہ ہیں۔

Abu Hurairah said: while a man was praying letting his lower garment trail, the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم said to him: Go and perform ablution. He, therefore, went and performed ablution and then returned. He (the prophet) again said: Go and perform ablution. He again went, performed ablution and returned. A man said to him (the prophet): Messenger of Allah, why did you order him to perform ablution? He said: he was praying with lower garment trailing, and does not accept the prayer of a man who lets his lower garment trail.

Zaid bin Qunfudh said that his mother asked Umm Salamah: In how many clothes should a woman pray? She replied; she would pray wearing a veil and a long shirt which covers the surface of her feet.

Umm Salamah said that she asked the prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم; Can a woman pray in a shirt and veil without wearing a lower garment? He replied: if the shirt is ample and covers the surface of her feet. Abu Dawud said: This tradition has been transmitted by Malik bin Anas, Bakr bin Mudar, Hafs bin Ghiyaht, Ismail bin Jafar, Ibn Abu Dhi'b, and Ibn Ishaq from Muhammad bin Zaid on the authority of his mother who narrated from Umm Salamah. None of these narrators mention the name of the Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم. They reported it directly from Umm Salamah.

Narrated Aishah, Ummul Muminin: The Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم said: Allah does not accept the prayer of a woman who has reached puberty unless she wears a veil. Abu Dawud said: This tradition has been narrated by Sa;id bin Abi 'Arubah from Qatadah on the authority of al-Hasan from the Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم.

Muhammad said: Aishah came to Sufiyyah Umm Talhat al-Talhat and seeing her daughter she said: The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم entered (into the house) and there was a girl in my apartment. He gave his lower garment (wrapper) to me and said; tear it into two pieces and give one-half to this (girl) and the other half to the girl with Umm Salamah. I think she has reached puberty, or (he said) I think have reached puberty. Abu Dawud said: Hisham has narrated it similarly from Muhammad bin sirin.

Narrated Abu Hurairah: The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم forbade trailing garments during prayer and that a man should cover his mouth. Abu Dawud said: This tradition has also been narrated by 'Isi on the authority of Ata from Abu Hurairah: The Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم forbade trailing garments during prayer.
